Help Connecting to Bluetooth Modem with Milestone ?

webvan

Newbie
In my quest to have a 3G connection on my new Milestone I first tried to connect to the AdHoc network running on my iPad but I found out that Android phones couldn't connect to AdHoc networks (see http://androidforums.com/motorola-milestone/178875-enabling-wifi-adhoc-milestone.html#post1604832)...

I'm now finding out that they can't connect to Bluetooth modems either...is that correct ? I saw messages saying that PDAnet enabled BT DUN but that's probably only to let other devices connect.

Oh and yes I put my iPad AT&T microSIM card in the Milestone using an adapter but Amazon sell the Euro version so it means no 3G in the USA, either with T-Mobile or AT&T.

Thanks for any help !

Unless you are in range of a wireless hotspot that is not ad hoc there is nothing you can do apart from buyin an appropriate version of the Milestone for your region.

Well that's what I did, I'm in the USA and I bought a Milestone from Amazon USA only to find that it's not compatible with 3G networks in the USA !

But back to Bluetooth, there are no tweaks so far to add profiles? Can it just handle Handsfree and A2DP/Stereo ?

It also handles file transfer and contact transfer. There may be more that I am not aware of though.

That's because there's no such thing as a US Milestone. I guess Amazon (USA) stock it for use north of the border.

I feel your frustration, I hope you can find a workaround.

Looks like the workaround is going to be to send it back to Amazon USA at their expense, sad because I like it and it's a waste of time.

Since you mention "North of the border", that's clearly the model that Amazon USA should selling since it has 2100 and would work on AT&T and in Canada.

@Szadzik - thanks, I wonder if some clever guys at XDA didn't find ways to add profiles in the past with custom basebands, but that was on Windows Mobile devices.

You know how it is. Even though Android is open source and WinMo isn't WinMo was somehow easier to mod. Maybe Android is still new and people will start doing what was done with WinMo in the past soon. I loved ?WinMo for the stuff you could change.

Most of the modding is above my head and that might change yes, but it's ironic indeed that WinMo was easier to modify and that you can do basic things on WinMo and Apple that you can't on Android, like connecting to AdHoc networks ;-)

That is just a feature and I bet it will be present in future versions of Android.

Let's not forget that WinMo has there been for years and years and Android is still very new and unpolished OS.

I have some problem about bluetooth,too- My milestone won't recieve files via bluetooth from my PC(even thought it says its connected),and I also wanted to send some music to my friend (to his LG phone) by bluetooth, and I also couldn't send. Can androids share music via bluetooth to other mobiles?
