Root connecting to computer issue

ill start off by letting you know when this happened,i unlocked the evo with no problems at all, installed odex stock rom and was in business everything worked. i wasn't planning on changing the rom because i like the stock rom as it is but i did want to change the kernel, so i downloaded the anthrax kernel from the all things root stickie and flashed it from recovery. i wasn't liking it all so well so when i went to change the kernel i connected the phone to the computer and it doesn't recognize it, tried deleting\re-installing drivers, and programs, and nothing so i thought mabie its the computer. no go i tried it on 3 other computers and it still doesn't recognize.i tried to get to bootloader by the sdk-tools command and i get * daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully * error: device not found.. this thing is giving me a headache and im just looking if anyone knows a solution to this problem. thanks
 
ive tried that, ive tried flashing different kernels by putting them in the sd card, ive tried installing my recovery backup i made, i think it might be this kernel. i just cant seem to change it
 
Did you do a nandroid backup? You should do that before you flash anything.

If not, wipe and start all over.
 
well if that is the issue how can i get rid of it? im stumped on how to do it if i cant connect the phone to the computer
 
yea i did a backup right before i flashed the odex rom when i was rooting, i have tried recovering the backup and still the kernel is there plus still no connection to the computer.
 
s-on, all ive done to this phone was htc unlock and installed the odex rom with the anthrax kernel. the kernel version in my phone says 2.6.38.8-3.0.30-hybrid.anthrax-cgoodman@buildbox01)null
 
When you issue the fastboot commands, are you doing them from HBOOT, or the ROM?

If you're not in bootloader, pull the battery.

Replace the battery. Hold the volume-down button and press the power button until the phone turns on, and you'll be in HBOOT. See if you can issue fastboot devices from there. If not, it's not an issue with the kernel, because it won't touch down to that low level.

ive tryed the commands both in hboot and from the rom, the commands are just not working its saying the device is not there when i have it usb connected
 
Ok, then I'm 99% certain your drivers aren't working on your computer for whatever reason.

I'd be willing to have a look at it for you if you want, but other than fixing those drivers I don't have any ideas on this.

is there a direct link to the drivers? mabie i just got crappy driver downloads. and even if i can get it to connect how come when i flash different kernels the anthrax kernel is still showing up? im just assuming you flash the kernel zip in the recovery menu like you would a rom

Probably showing up because you're not wiping before you restore your backup.

My suggestion would be to go into control panel and uninstall the HTC drivers and HTC sync if that's installed. Then reboot your PC and download the drivers from this page since that's the version that unlimited.io requires for the wire trick. Then connect the phone in the bootloader mode to your PC and see if you can see it via "fastboot devices".

Regarding flashing the kernel with S-ON, you may need to boot your recovery with the "fastboot boot recovery.img" command to flash the entire ROM successfully until you get a working ROM+kernel combination.

thank .... you... ramjet i managed to get it connected with linked drivers and got it running again. i appreciate all that has helped you saved me from running over a good phone :D:D:D
