Connecting to WiFi N band network?

Hydrated

I have a question about configuring the WiFi connections on my Atrix 2.

I have a dual band router with wireless G and N bands. I set up my G and N networks with different SSID's so that I can easily tell which band a device is connected to.

My Atrix 2 WiFi functions great... it connects to my network seamlessly and never drops a connection. But it only wants to connect to my G band network. I've tried deleting the G network from the preferred connections list... but the phone only finds my G band when I scan for available WiFi networks. I know my N network is up and functional because I have other devices using it.

Am I missing something in the WiFi settings in the phone? I can't find any way to turn the separate bands on or off. Why won't my phone find the N band network?

My Galaxy Nexus also doesn't see the 5 ghz channel when configured on the router. The rezound I previously rented found them without a problem as did my iPad.

I changed back to the crowded G band to allow the Galaxy Nexus to see the internet.

But it only wants to connect to my G band network.

I did nothing with settings on my new Atrix2.
I connected to my Netgear N router (configured for 145Mbps) at 65Mbps.

That is the highest I've seen from any device for this router is 65, and the laptop that I've seen connect elsewhere at 240 only connects "g".
I'll check the Atrix on another router tomorrow, where I have seen 240 on my laptop (kind of silly, since I think it's a 1.5M DSL link).

I've heard it won't recognize 5GHz WirelessN bands

I'd have to agree with that.

With my laptop, I am currently connected to a public hotspot that shows an SSID in upper case on the "2.4GHz" channel 7 (5-9), and a notation "144(N)" in the Max Rate column of inSSIDer. It also shows up as a lower case SSID on the "5.Ghz" channel 44+48 with the notation "300(N)".

In previous scans, I saw the "2.4GHz" on 6+10 (4-12), with a "300(N) notation.

My connection on UPPERCASE is 65Mbps. If I break and connect to lowercase, it is 270Mbps.

The Atrix 2 only shows the UPPERCASE SSID, and connects at 65Mbps.
