Help Connection to data network causes reboot!

Lurker
I know there are several other posts like this but from what I've been able to find, my situation seems to be different.

I picked up a used Inspire on Craigslist. The previous owner had been using it on T-Mobile so it was obviously unlocked at some point. I did a factory reset and activated it with my line.

After a few hours the phone started shutting off and restarting and stayed in the boot cycle even when I removed the battery. After some playing around I figured out that it worked fine as long as I had the data network turned off.

ATT gave me a new sim card. No change.

I reloaded the factory ROM from HTC's support page. My HBOOT screen reads:

ACE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.85.0024
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.10.04.03_M
eMMC-boot

Please help. The phone works as long is data is turned off but obviously that isn't ideal.

Thanks!

This really sounds like the phone may have been rooted at one time and then possibly unrooted. You might do some research on how to root your phone and use a custom rom. Rooting is very easy now and you don't have a warranty to worry about voiding. This is going to give you much more control of your phone and clear out the current settings. Now before you do this I would see what other responses you get this post because this could also be a radio issue and if you have to install a different radio you will need to be rooted first but also flashing a radio can brick your phone easier than anything else as I understand it. I have never messed with em. you might also search thru posts over at HTC Inspire 4G - xda-developers
wishing you the best of luck on this will be very interested in what happens with this issue

After you ran the RUU did you test it before you signed in with your google account? Perhaps there is an app in your Market account that is causing this and it's getting automatically pushed to your phone as soon as you go through all that setup stuff. If it worked okay before any additional apps were installed, try doing a factory reset again and then gradually install new apps one at a time and testing in between each installation to see if you can identify a bad app.

If the restarts happen right after the reset, you may want to consider rooting the phone and flashing a custom ROM. This could help you determine if it's a software or hardware issue. I don't know if it's still under warranty but if it is and you can determine it's a hardware issue, then you can un-root it, return it to stock, and file a warranty claim.

You might also want to try replacing the battery. I think I've read posts that people had problems with restarts and it was b/c of a bad battery.

Just to give you guys an update. Over the past few days I've been using my phone pretty heavily and have only had it restart into the boot cycle maybe 3 or 4 times (not at all today!).

I decided to root the phone however just to see if it would help at all. I used the Andvanced Ace Hack Kit by attn1 over at xda. Worked like a charm. Now I just need to wait and see if that helped my problems.

To give credit to attn1, the link to his kit is [TOOL] Advanced ACE Hack Kit (13012012) - xda-developers

Like I said, worked great!

My phone started showing the same problem as described here. It works fine as long as there is no mobile data connection. As soon as this is turned on it starts rebooting over and over again. Already did a hard reset. But again, as soon as I set up the mobile data connection (wifi works fine) it started rebooting. Its an Samsung ACE which is less than a year old so I don't wanna mess with the warranty - any ideas what to try?

Cheers

Well unfortunately I have to report that my problems have not been solved. After rooting the device it worked well for a few hours and then has been back to its antics. I've let the issue sit for the past week or so because I've been busy. I'm basically at a loss for what to do.

Have you tried a custom ROM? Maybe there's something within the current ROM that isn't getting cleared with just a factory reset.
