Help connection to PC

Sorry if I am asking something stupid or something that has been asked 1000 times, but I am connecting my Galaxy Nexus to the PC fr the first time. The drivers auto-installed without problems and USB tethering and internet connection sharing works fine.
But I assume that the device is supposed to show up under "My Computer" as a drive with access to the internal storage of the device. But that is not the case. What am I doing wrong?

I have done the usual restarts of both the PC and the phone, but it's not showing up in "My Computer". As stated, tethering and connection sharing works just fine.
I am using Windows XP.
Also, the Galaxy Nexus is not the Verizon version but an unmolested unlocked and unaltered model.

Try plugging in the phone and then launch windows update. look for optional hardware update. That's what finally did it for me on windows XP pro. I tried everything else listed on all forums, I swear. Now everything works perfect.

Other options if you can't get usb drivers to work:
Samba Filesharing <-connects your phone as a network drive over wifi
Droid Explorer <-uses ADB over usb

I don't know if this applies to WinXP but to get everything to work right on my Win7 64-bit machine I had to install PDAnet on my computer (free from their website) and that also installed all the required drivers. Then I just uninstalled PDAnet and the drivers remained and everything works great now.

Oh and my GN shows up as:

Galaxy Nexus
Portable Media Player

in "My Computer"
