Root Cons to rooting?

If i root my htc hero are there any cons? will i still be able to update to eclair?

I wonder, has anyone ever tried sending a rooted phone to be repaired? I know it voids your warrenty, but I've also heard it said that flashing an official RUU you return everything to normal, so that they couldn't tell.

The thing is if you have a hardware fault would you be able to re-flash with a stock ROM?

I doubt HTC would worry about it unless you somehow managed to cause a hardware issue as a direct result of rooting, perhaps by overclocking or something. I don't think I'll risk it until the warranty period is up though just in case I need to send it in.
