Root Consequences of overclocking and increasing ram with swap file

What can happen to my phone if I overclock and increase RAM with Swap file? I have a Galaxy y with Hybrid 8 ROM and Merruk kernel. I haven't overclocked it to 1,2 GHz yet, as I'm not sure if it will harm my device in any way. I'm not currently economically stable, so I want to keep this phone for at least 4 - 6 more months. I have had it exactly 1 year, FYI. Here are the specs to the phone. (Click show)
