Root Consequenes of rooting for Bell users ??

Having done quite a bit of rooting and flashing on my Galaxy before I think I already know the answer to the question. I know that I can't use the GingerBlur rom just yet because of some slight differences between AT&T & Bell installed fimwares. I want to root so that I can get back to using Titanium backup and Adfree. I can't see an issue with it, but I just wanted to make sure before I do.

good to know lol

btw did you get it from bell with a contract ? I took it from bell last week without a contract " I paid the full price " but they refused to unlock my phone, they said I must wait one month before they unlock it for me, short story " is it OK to do the rooting thing without unlocking the phone ?

Yup, got it on contract. Go ahead an root. Unlocking is completely unrelated. It just removes the carrier branding so that you can go to Telus, Rogers, etc.

One thing though. Adfree isn't working. I cannot seem to stop ads yet. When I figure that out, I'll post.

I've rooted since day 3 of owning my Bell Atrix and it hasn't caused any noticeable changes except for a better battery life. :-D

Adfree works by editing your HOSTS file which requires elevation from an app like "SuperUser" Does the Atrix root solution include such an app? I'm a former Bell i7500 user too and looking at the Atrix as my next phone. Researching right now.

Well, Snazzy, myself and others on XDA have yet to get Adfree working. Manually editing the hosts file seems to do nothing either. For whatever reason, it seems to be a Bell specific problem. Now just go get your Atrix. My god what a difference. You'll be blown away. Oh ya, you do get "superuser" when you root.

Must be a weird bug that effects Atrix and Bell 3G. My N1 runs AdFree just fine on the Bell network.

I really like the specs but the encrypted bootloader goes against what Android stands for and thus I cannot buy the Atrix. I applaud HTC for discontinuing this ugly practice and once a Tegra HTC phone hits Bell I will purchase it.
