Root Considering Rooting my charge

Lurker
hey guys,

im new to this site, ive had my charge since june and i'm considering rooting my droid. its kinda slow at points, but at other times its alright. and im also just looking for a way to make it kinda cooler.
what are the chances of bricking the phone? i have a pretty decent handle of my computer so i think i'd be able to understand a walkthrough on the rooting process.

im also just kinda not sure of what rooting my phone will actually give me.
thanks !

Having gotten sick of having to reload my home screens every time I exit an app, I decided to install the EP3HA debloated ROM tonight.

I followed the instructions here under "Install Gingerbread With Odin": How To: ROOT your Droid Charge

(Same guide with screen shots: Flashing Roms or Return to Stock with Odin BY PICTURE)

Worked like a charm. I am now running a debloated, rooted Gingerbread Droid Charge and it is a -lot- faster. I have gone ahead and installed Go Launcher EX but before doing that I milled around in TouchWiz and that home screen lag is completely gone. The phone also feels snappier and more responsive in pretty much everything I do now as well. I noticed Opera Mobile loads up a lot faster.

Just make sure you back up anything on the SD card as the process will wipe your phone storage.

Oh and make sure you plug in the USB cable to the actual back port on your PC, as even the otherwise always functional front USB panel on my case -did not- work with Odin. Once I moved the cable to the back port it worked fine. Windows automatically installed the Samsung drivers for me.

It's extremely easy and after booting it into download mode the only thing you really have to do load up odin, select your file and hit "Start."

The 1 thing you can do wrong to brick your phone is to select the wrong options in Odin, but as the instructions clearly indicate, select -PDA- and the F.Reset and Auto reboot checkboxes and NOTHING else. I highly recommend the debloated ROM also.

Good luck!

There are some new releases on XDa forums that are golden. I loaded humblecomb 5.0 last night and its perfect! No problems at all and super fast and smooth. If you like Swype, you'll have to download the beta version from their site, but that's easy enough. I actually like the new beta version better anyway.

Also, once you are rooted you can use apps like mybackup and easily keep all apps and data available for future flashes if you wish.

Reading the reports on the EP4P I really want to root my Charge but it seem a little beyond me. I've rooted my old Samsung Omnia, which seemed a lot easier than the charge. I'll have to read some more to get my confidence up before I try and root it.

I'm thinking on doing this, seems easy enough and when I rooted the original Droid it made it a completely new phone. One question I have is before I root is there a way to get a snapshot backup? I would like to get a backup of my phones current state before I root. I know that if I want to go back there's instructions to unroot but that will get me to the point in time when it was brand new and I'd like to perform a backup of current state.

Thoughts?

Not that I'm aware of unfortunately.

Let me know if you need help.

Root vidand many other items on my channel:

The root vid is an older method, but it will set you up to run some great ROMs with needing to download all kinds of other software. I really suggest ROMing after rooting.
