Help Constant Data Roaming /loss of Data Connectivity notification...

How do i turn this notification off? I had the same issue with the Galaxy S2, and had Sprint walk me through the steps to turn it off... I've tried a few things, but still get this notification since i got the phone for Sprint a few days ago...

Any luck with this? I am getting this as well and cannot find a place to stop it. I get it probably 20 times a day. It even comes up when I have wifi on at home.
 
Are you guys having loss of data? Or just the notification for it? If so how do you deal with it?

I have wifi on and I keep getting the notification. I can't figure out how to stop it. I can only clear the notification but it comes back over and over and over again.
 
Is the wifi working? What do your connection bars show for wifi and network?

Wifi is working with full bars. It's just the cell reception is constantly changing. I'll have 2 or 3 bars then suddenly have no bars. While the phone is sitting still.
 
I would like to turn this notification off as well.
I have no extra charge on my plan for roaming, so I don't need to be notified when I'm roaming!
It is just annoying, it does nothing that affects my service.
 
Try this, under wireless and networks --> roaming--> roaming settings --> uncheck voice and data. I think this is how I did it on previous phones. You can also go under roaming guard and see if those are checked. Hope that helps

I have also tried everything I can think of and still get it. I have turned off all roaming guards. I have been round and round with Sprint tech support and they don't know what is causing it or so they say.

I really notice it the most when I am in an area where I only have 1 bar of service and it wants to flip back and forth between Sprint and the roaming network. Such as where I work.
 
I'm fully connected to WiFi while getting this...and Yes if you uncheck them you (or at least I) get horrible data service...Just got a new update last night with Sprint, but it DID NOT fix this issue :(
 
I just switched from Big Red over to Sprint and at the same time picked up the Galaxy S3. I am having this same issue for the past week now. It is driving me insane. The reception on my Sprint phone is so bad that I am seriously thinking I made a huge mistake. I live in Grand Rapids Michigan and we have 4G WIMAX here. I live right in the center of the coverage. I have never seen the 4G icon yet appear on my phone? I do have the preferred connection type set to 4G LTE\CDMA but have never seen it. I drop 50% of all calls and this stupid notification pops up constantly while I am connected to my Wi-Fi at home. I have FULL Wi-Fi connectivity and 1 to 0 bars for cell reception. I hope someone figures this out or I may have to bring this phone back and see about getting a refund!!

I didn't even finish reading your post because I couldn't believe it started out that you switched from Verizon to Sprint on purpose.

Well I have been with Verizon for 20 years and got tired of their poor customer service here. When I say poor that is grossly under stated. They have flat out lied to me on several occasions and purposely extorted money from me. Recently when I went to Upgrade my phone they notified me that I would have to go to a tiered data plan. I have had the 29.99 Unlimited Data Plan for as long as data plans have existed. They informed me that they no longer offered that and I had to move to a tiered data package. So 450 Minutes, 1000 Text, 4G data(I average about 3G monthly), and Insurance = $130.00? So I went to Sprint and got Unlimited Data, Unlimited Talk, Unlimited Text and insurance for $70.00 a month. I get a discount for belonging to a credit union normally the Unlimited is $79.00. I knew Sprint had 4G WIMAX coverage where I live so I thought I would give it a try. So far not so good. The coverage is horrible or maybe it's just my phone? Not sure what is going on yet?

I don't know if they lied to you or you just claim them to be lies because you were an uninformed customer. If you wanted to keep your unlimited data you should have pre-ordered the Galaxy S3 before the deadline on June 28. Verizon announced they were moving to these new plans for a while now. There are still ways you could have held on to your old plan. You could have gotten phones for full retail, if data is that important to you.

I don't like the new plans either. But from your post it sounds like you maybe could have done some research before hand before blaming Verizon and leaving them completely.

The only reason they "made" you move plans is because you are buying a subsidized phone which requires accepting the new data plan.

Your phone is not equipped with a Wimax radio.

Part of Sprint's Network Vision moving forward is to add LTE towers and enhance current 3g networks. IMO wimax will disappear over the next few years as those towers are converted.

I will look into the specifics for the s3 but on most phones
to turn off the pop up warning of overages look in
menu.settings.mobile data.roaming guards (or something to that effect, I don't have an s3 in hand at the moment)

uncheck items you do not want to be notified of...

Sprint 4G is not available with the Galaxy S3, 4G LTE will be available soon in 15 select city's... I think... maybe you should tell your Sprint dealer to trade the Galaxy for the HTC

The HTC that is out is LTE not WIMAX. I don't know if they are even still selling WIMAX phones. I know they were discontinuing several of them a few months ago.
 
First of all, please be respectful of people's choices. If it wouldn't ruin the discussion of this thread, I would have removed a few posts here. FWIW, I also switched from Verizon to Sprint and, while it has been a bumpy ride with some of the data inconsistencies, overall I'm much happier. VZW didn't want to work with me and was charging me an arm and a leg. Sprint works with me and their CS is much better, IMO.

With that said, CReuss, what baseband are you on? (Go to settings > About Phone to check). Sprint had an update to LP9 baseband a month ago and it dramatically improved my cell reception. If you haven't applied any OTAs, try doing a manual check for it.
 
Thanks for the helpful tips guys. Sorry if my previous post was negative towards Verizon. Please don't take it as a personal attack against you if that is your carrier. I had no issues with their coverage at all. It was great. Their CS was absolutely horrible and they told me so many lies that I decided to try another carrier. So far Sprint has been very pleasant to deal with. As long as I can get rid of this annoying notification and 4G sometime soon I will be happy. I looked at my band that my phone is on and it is NOT the same as yours but it says there are no updates when I try and update it? I am on VPLG2.

I called Sprint and talked to them about my poor coverage and constant Data Connectivity issues where I live. They didn't understand why my coverage was so bad because I have 3 towers within a mile from my house. They did say that the closest one had a maintenance ticket open on it for over heating and maybe that was the reason for my poor cell service? Anyways they decided to send me something called an Air Rave? It hooks to my High Speed Modem and they said it will act as my own personal Cell tower giving me 5 bars anywhere inside my house. All FREE of charge!!! I am pretty happy that their working with me on my issues. So far still a pretty good experience.

It is (or was) called and Air Wave. We used to have one. As long as you have at least 5 or 6Mbps speed internet, you should see good results (unless you have other devices, computers, ps3, etc taking up bandwidth). We started out on a plan that only had 2Mbps (due to location) and it would not work at all and that was with NO other devices going. When our Mbps was increased later, it worked some days when traffic was slow.. We finally just gave up on it.
Later, we received a post card saying that since we weren't using it, we had so many days to send it back or buy it for like $150. We sent it back.

Now, Best Buy (not sure who else) sells an item (around $200) that boosts up your signal WITHOUT internet access. It is portable enough to take in a vehicle if you travel. We plan to get this soon!
 
My wife and I both had problems with the network roaming, losing signal, having full bars. I made several calls to sprint trying to get the problem resolved but I started to think they were just jerking me around to get me locked in to my contract. They said the tower needed a trouble call & offed to send me the air wave thing or what ever the hell it is. I was like seriously? I just need working phones without any BS. What angers me the most is their coverage map claimed to work in the are where I needed it the most (@ work). I canceled after 3 days returned the phones and went with another carrier. I think sprint needs to get their network squared away in some areas. Phones work great now. I suggest to anyone going with sprint to make sure your phone works the way you want and where you want before you sign on.
 
I get this annoying notification too. Roam guard has no effect on it. I guess it is just something we're stuck with.

I live in a hole, so the Airave is my cell tower. it works great. My whole house has full service. I have FiOS 5/15 internet service. Works without issue.
 
I realize this is an old thread, but had to comment...

I was googling for any information about the data roaming notification which constantly pops up on my Samsung Galaxy phone, and no matter what I select, it comes back, sometimes within seconds.

As I read through this thread, I started to gain hope that someone would have found a solution and shared it here. Alas, I found that the thread got completely ******* hijacked and derailed, by someone bringing up a totally different and unrelated issue, and thus the thread wound up being 100% useless.

So, since I had wasted so much time reading through the needlessly hijacked message, I felt obliged to contribute absolutely nothing, much like the moderator who chose to single out the carrier-bashing in his post, when the real issue was that the thread was completely derailed to begin with.
