Help Constant Disconnects - Radio Issue?

Hi,

Recently I'm having constant disconnects for 3G connection.
I am always in areas where I should have reception..

The signal bar goes down to zero with X mark.

Currently I'm rooted using Redux v1.2 (2.3.3).
This problem only started occuring recently, until then
I haven't had a single problem.

Could this problem be related to the radio version?
(Current radio ver. 32.48.00.23H_5.11.05.14)

If I update the radio, will it improve signal quality?
Also do I just update the radio like any other flash updates??
(save on SD card, recovery then update?)

Thanks!

I'm assuming you haven't flashed a radio before, so you'll be on your stock version? You can either flash a new radio via recovery or Android Flasher (with the latter being the preferred way and I believe you need to be S-Off). If you flash via recovery, download the zip and put it on your SD card and extract (similarly to flashing any Rom). If you go via the Android Flasher route you'll need to use the image file which can be extracted from the zip. I used this guide here - provided by SURoot. I really recommend you read through all this FAQs and guides as they are pretty much spot on for most issues and queries you may have.

A new radio can improve signal strength and general reliability. I'm running the same Rom as you and using this radio 5.17.05.23 and have no problems.

A word of warning. A dodgey flash of a radio can easily lead to a rather pretty brick. I'd do your research and make sure you're happy with what you're doing before proceeding!

Good luck!

Hi Jon,

Thanks for the detailed explanation!

I have 1 more question..
I'm not S-OFF'd right now so I guess I should be flashing via recovery.
Why is Android Flasher preferred rather than the recovery method?

No problems!

I'll pinch my next paragraph from the developer of Android Flasher (Danward of XDA):

Features:
-Multiple flashes without closing the application.
-Deletes all used files leaving you with nothing more than you had to start with.
-Completely automatic, only user thing is to make a splash image, have a recovery img, a hboot img or a radio img.
-Unified interface.
-Completely in C#
-Now supports BMP, PNG, and JPEG images. Not just BMP like NBIMG.
-Usable on your Desire, Desire Z, Desire HD, EVO 4g, EVO 3D, Desire S, Incredible S, Thunderbolt and Sensation.
-The application double checks the image dimensions to ensure no problems.
-Also checks the created splash img file size to ensure no errors.

So it's a very user friendly and versatile program which can facilitate in the rooting world. I also feel it's fool proof, and you just can't go wrong.
However, doing it by recovery isn't the most complex operation either. And as you're S-On, may be your only option if you don't want to S-off. Either way, it's a relatively simple process. :D
