Contact info changes back!

When I change a contact on my phone it doesn't sync with my gmail account, it just puts it back to what it was.

For example, if I have someone in my phone called Jill Smith and she gets married and so her name is now Jill Jones. So I go to my phone and change her name to Jill Jones and save it. Then a minute later when I go back to look at it it's changed it back to Jill Smith! If I go onto my Gmail account on a computer I can change it there but I don't want to have to go onto the computer every time I want to change a contact. Any ideas? I'm running 2.2.

Is the person whose details you are trying to change linked to their facebook profile (and their facebook profile shows the old name)?

I had this problem when trying to update a mobile number for a friend but it kept defaulting back to the number they had stored on their facebook profile (which was not in the format I wanted it in - (international)). IN the end I had to unlink the contact from the facebook profile
