Contact names deleted

I just installed the new update for the droid eris and everything is working perfect except for the fact that all of my contacts have been deleted. Anyone have any idea how to fix this problem. Thanks.
 
Just make sure your signed in to gmail. Go to Menu, settings, accounts & sync, gmail, and make sure contacts are sync'd.
 
what happens if you didn't us google contacts?? I backed up my phone numbers on the verizon server from my LG dare before I got my Eris, can I get them back?
If not how to I sync my boutlook contacts with google contacts getting them on my phone that way?
