Help contact pics?

new here, of course. just picked up my htc aria and its a nice change from the iphone. the main problem i keep having is when i try to set a pic to a contact it only gives me the people i have e-mail addresses for. alot of people that are in my contact list i dont have an e-mail for, i just call or SMS them. i tried going to the pic, and tapping "set as" then "contact id" but it wont go to any contacts without an e-mail. i also tried editing my contacts but with the same results. it quite frustrating. thats the one thing i liked most about my old iphone, and i know the droid is better but why cant it do this?
any help would be appreciated.

Is there a SIM card icon next to your contacts? If so, it will not save pics to your SIM card. You can import your contacts from your SIM to your phone if you would like to add pics. No email address is necessary. Hope this helps.
