Help contact storage / dialer storage

I did a quick search and the only topic showed up as unanswered so, what's the difference between the two and which one can i clear the cache on safely without losing anything. Both are roughly 5 mb

its really strange, but dialer storage is actually your message storage. I deleted mine the other day cause I thought the same as you, and only later when I went to send a text, I realised all my texts were gone. So contact storage is your contacts, and dialer storage is your messages.

Also deleting the cache shouldnt affect much, its clearing the data that wipes it

Yeah. I'm rooted and use Titanium backup. It refers to dialer storage as [sms/ dialer storage]. I expect it is your call log too.

need some info here..

I am rooted and installed Mikg 3.11, have no contacts other that what was saved to Gmail and no messages.

Proir to installing the MOD, I did a titianum pro backup... i see these files.

Contact Storage 2.3.3 (CONTACT/CALLS)
Dialer Storage 2.1.000.074499.651 (SMS/MMS/APN)

I curious if i can just install the data, from these to get my contacts and messages back?

I also did a Clockwork Backup, of the Previous system, but have no clue on using,

any help always appriciated..

I wouldn't restore titanium backup data across different ROMs. However if the back ups were XML files they should be ok.

The CWM backup is if you want to revert to the previous ROM.

Nicka has it exactly right (he usually does :)) - if you made an xml backup of call logs or SMS with Ti you are fine to restore that, but not the contacts storage app backup.

If you didn't make that type of backup, you can always take a CWM backup of your current ROM, restore the backup of your previous ROM, take the xml backups of those things (and make sure your contacts are exported as vcf or backed up with Google), then restore your new ROM from its backup and restore those other data. I've done this more than once when I've changed ROM then realised that I'd forgotten to back something up first.
