Help Contact Transfer (AT&T Can't Do It?)

I was using the Motorola Q9H Global running Windows Mobile 6.1 for the past 3 years. My SIM card ran out of contact space 2 years ago so I have a ton of contacts on the phone and the SIM card. I got my phone from RadioShack and they said to hit up AT&T to do the transfer...so I did. AT&T says they don't have the software to transfer my contacts over to my Atrix. Is this true, or is this not something that companies do any more?

Its a nightmare working with Windows Mobile 6.1 because you have to have outlook for your contacts which I don't use. Anyone know a better way I can make this transfer?

Also, do the newest SIM cards hold more contacts? I love having my contacts on my SIM in case I need to switch phones. Will AT&T give me a new free SIM card even though I bought the phone from RadioShack?

I appreciate the help!

From what I know, it depends. The problem should not be getting the contacts unto the Atrix; the Cellrite machines used have a universal Android client under the "PDA/Smartphone" category that will work so long as the appropriate options are checked off in the "Applications" setting on your phone. Getting the contacts off may pose a problem to them though.

grab a google account, and sync your contacts to that. I came from an HTC Fuze, and when i moved to android all i had to do was load up my google account and all my contacts came straight down. If you're still hung up on keeping them on the SIM you can then move them back to the SIM once they are synced.

this is really the easiest way.

Or, in Outlook export your contacts to a CSV file, then import those contacts into Google Contacts.

Thats if you have outlook, I dont have outlook though. Should I go back to the AT&T store and ask them to give it a try? Will they charge me?

Your a valued customer and for something like this that otherwise they would normally do, they wont charge you. I don't even think they could cause its not a product or service they can actually ring up. The only reason it cant be done is because the software they use does not sync with this phone. First I would call them and see if they even have outlook. Then its cake after that. You sync the phone to outlook to merge data IIRC, then export the contacts file, next import that file into gmail.

This is what I did.

I already had a Gmail account and for some reason my WM6.1 was having trouble with the ActiveSync software on Windows 7. It would sync pictures just fine, but not my contacts.

I did a little bit of research and set up the Active Sync on my phone to sync with Google's servers and my Gmail account. It was instant, and awesome.
