Contacts mess

rjesak

Lurker
I got an HTC Rezound a few weeks back and my contacts are just a wreck. First of all, I have the same issue everyone else does in that everyone I've ever emailed via Google is showing up but I can deal with that. I have two issues that are driving me batty:
1. When I bought the phone, I had the Verizon tech copy my contacts from my hated Citrus to the Rezound. Seemed like a great idea but, although I got all the contacts, the phone numbers were all gone! I went back and the Verizon guy recopied them but now I have three or four duplicates of the same contact EXCEPT that, in some cases, one has the email address, and a different one has the phone number! What a mess! I was just going to try to link them all but then I ran into issue number two.

2. When I try to link a contact, it brings up an option to link to a Facebook contact or "All" contacts. The problem is that "All" contacts is NOTHING like all my contacts. In fact, it seems to be limited to my google email addresses only. Even if I do try to link to a Facebook contact, when I select the contact I want to link to, it just dumps me back on the link-with-Facebook-or-all-contacts screen and doesn't link anything. This means that, for instance, I've got my mom's Facebook contact, a contact for her with her phone numbers, another contact for her with her email address, and another empty contact for her.

Ugh. Is there a way I can clean up my contacts without just typing them all in?

I can't help much, other than to say to into your gmail account and clean up as much of the contacts there instead of trying to do it all on your phone.

def try going to gmail on a pc and merging contacts from there.

alternatively, when you are viewing your contacts in 'people' app you can click where it says people at the top of screen and select the contacts you want to show by different categories, you can even press to the right of the 'google' category and filter out everything but your actual contacts. This gets the random email addresses, the people in google plus circles, etc out of the main people window

If you go into
- Contacts
- Under People tab
- Hit menu button
- More
- Move contacts

Move them all to your gmail and manage them there. So much easier.

Awesome help! Thanks so much. I moved 'em all to google so I can manage them there - that definitely simplifies matters! Thanks again.
