Help Contacts...phone vs Google

I have made what I think is the mistake of setting up all of my contacts in my Incredible as "phone" contacts. I now understand that these should have been set up as Google contacts so that they will be backed up on my Google account.

I do not see a way to edit these contacts to change them from phone to Google. Am I going to have to delete and re-enter all of these contacts as Google contacts to get this done?

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to make the switch.

I suggest re-creating them on a computer in your google account. It'll go faster.

EDIT: I just tried it myself because I had a handful of phone contacts to switch over. Works well. Beware though, that you might get a Sync error, "Too many contacts deletes". I fixed it by deleting all contacts off of my phone and from my google account (after making backups, of course!), then restoring the google contacts online prior to allowing the phone to sync.
