contacts question

I have a question

I didn't have a gmail adres, aso I just made one and imported my contacts from hotmail.
I thn put in my sim and imported those as google contacts. Now I have the option to link certain names (same name and such)
But I was wondering, say as example, I have 3 contacts (one mail, one phone number, one facebook) and I link them to 1 person, does this mean they actually merge... So if I were to buy another phone and imported those contacts to it it would be the same, or again the unorganised mess it is now?
If so, I would rather start afresh with 1 acount with all the data in it...sure it would take some time but to the future

I think it will actually merge, try doing one, then checking your gmail account online. Here you can check the contacts and make sure that there is only one physical contact.

I added a test account via the phone with gmail adres, put it in a group but now I don't now how I actually sync this with my gmail account.
If I add a phone contact and enter mail adres, how do I add this to my gmail account (I choose google account)

I just noticed this contact just disappears after a minute...
what now?
I have the account there but as soon as google syncs my contacts is vanishes...
I tryed adding it to a group and to no group, same thing.
Am I missing something here?

if you create a new contact, and choose google type then it auto syncs with your gmail account. In your gmail just type the name and it will auto fill the email address.

Nope if you merge them on your phone, then go online

gmail > contacts (on the left) > My contacts

The single contact should be there

I don't merge, cause I make a google contact from scratch...
And the contact is gone, and not in gmail also after sync

*update*

after trying and trying I found something out. If I don't add a birthday to the google contact the contact perfectly syncs with gmail and stays in both gmail and my phone

If I then go to gmail and set a birthday it syncs ok again...

Think this is a flaw in the software though
