Help Contacts randomly disappear

OK, so I thought I was doing something wrong for a while, but now I am convinced I have an issue.

Randomly I will lose contacts on my phone. They are still in Google Contacts online. I can see them there, modify them, delete them -- whatever I want, but they will not show on my phone. If I delete them and recreate, the contact shows up.

If I have a contact online, but not on my phone, how do I push it back to my phone??

Yes, my phone is syncing Google contacts. I can modify a contact that IS on my phone and it updates almost immediately.

Call me perplexed....

Tom

have you tried turning off your Virzon Snyc? found in the same spot.. mine is off i stopped using it altogether

The backup or something else. I definitely have backup assistant off, but if there is something else I do not.

Thanks for the quick answer.

Go into the people app on the phone and make sure you have set the right group of contacts as your default.

In people app go to the middle tab and then hit the menu button. Choose contacts to display. Then make sure you select your Gmail account. Also, log in to Gmail online and make sure these missing contacts are in "my contacts" not "all contacts". By default the Gmail contacts will sync "my contacts" with the phone when you select that Gmail account.

Thanks for the tips so far, but none of those appear to be it. I had another individual contact drop off. It still shows online. Odd.

These "missing contact", when you look online are they appearing under "my contacts"? Or are they under "other contacts"? If you click on these contacts does it show "My contacts" in a blue box under their name?

Are you only using gmail or do you have exchange set up as well? I've seen another post about contacts missing and I think that was related to him running exchange as well. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the way new contacts are added.

Using Gmail and yahoo only. No exchange. All is well right now. Will have to wait for next one to disappear to check if it is in my contacts. All contacts are currently listed in my contacts online.

I'm having the same exact issue. I don't backup my contacts anywhere except to a vcard file... Backup assistant irritates me and I've never used the google sync for contacts. I just prefer to do it myself. Anyways, the weird part is that I can't see the contacts but I can make a valid export, clear the data from contact storage and import my contacts again. Obviously this isn't ideal and I'd like any thoughts on the matter.

Edit: Figured it out...Menu > Contacts to display > Customize > Check "All other contacts" under your google account.

I've been suffering from this for a couple of years now with multiple phones (Nexus One and now HTC Sensation). Took a while to figure out what was going on: somehow, my contacts are getting removed from the "my contacts" group, and thus don't get synced to my phone. All the info is still there, they're just being removed from that group.
Anyone any suggestions on how to stop this? I know better than filing a bug report with google, they don't seem to even read them.

The only guess I have is that, at some point you added some info (a new # or email address) to these contacts, and when you did and the program re-saved them, it defaulted to a different 'group' instead of saving them to my contacts.

Just a guess, I really can't think of any other way it could happen.
