Contacts Storage - Can I delete?

My Contacts storage is growing out of control. Has anyone cleared the data (via Manage Applications) for contacts storage? I have a bunch of manually linked contacts, and don't want to risk losing them.

Just try a restart on the phone, it might work some bit, but we lack the option to save any program to the sd card until froyo.

It's not a program or app, its the storage for contacts. A restart doesn't change the size.
