Help Contacts sync issues

rjparker

Newbie
My wife is have trouble, her sync "contacts" won't sync. The calender, and gmail sync, but the contacts just keeps syncing until a red "!" shows up. It killed her battery dead while the phone was turned off.
(We aren't "rooted" or anything just stock from the store.)

Thanks,
Rich

disable auto syncing, restart, and try it manually using wifi. if that doesn't work, leave it for a few days before trying again.

The best thing to do for this:

From home, settings->accounts & sync, tap google account, uncheck contacts
settings->applications->manage applications
wait for the screen to refresh - it may take a minute or so
find contact storage (it may be easier to do menu->sort by size, followed by menu->sort a-z) - tap it
tap the button "clear data"

go back into settings->accounts & sync
tap your google account. re-check Contacts
If it isn't already syncing, tap "sync now"

That should fix it. (Note that the same goes for calendars and the application "calendar storage" and gmail and the application, well, "gmail".)

The only issue is that if you have altered any settings in the "People" app you may need to check to see if they are still set.

I tried this, and when opening Manage applications I have two: Account and Sync Settings is listed first @ 40.00KB (white sync icon) and Accounts & sync listed second @ 56.00KB (green sync icon). Opening either of them, I see three grey buttons: Clear cache, Clear defaults, and Force stop. All three buttons are greyed out (non selectable) because my data and cache are both empty. Also, both of these accounts say "version 7" when I open either of them.

Running xtrSENSE 5.0.1, partitioned SD card, apps2sd, blah blah blah. Can't think of what else I might be doing wrong.

In "Manage Applications", you are looking for Contacts Storage. Tap that, tap "clear data", and then turn syncing back on.

(Actually, you really don't have to turn syncing off and turn it back on again. It works if you just go into settings->applications->manage applications and look for Contacts Storage.)
