Help Contacts Syncro Problem

Hi !
I just bought a Desire but I have a problem.

If i create a new contact and then I syncronize my contact with my Gmail account (which actually doesn't contains any contact) I supposed to have the new contact also on my Gmail account, but that's not the case. The syncronization DELETES my contact on the phone !!
Whats the problem? Am I doing something wrong?

I have been having the same problem, though on and off, sometimes it works sometimes not....haven't found a solution to it yet aside from actually writing down my contacts on a piece of paper, the good old way you know .
