Phone was getting really laggy- so after 2 updates from ICS 4 to present 4.1.2, and reading about things here, I decided last night, after a few pints, to reset the phone. Bad mistake, I forgot to take out the sim card and SD card. While the music that I had on the SD card is ok, all I have left is the email address part of all the contacts--no numbers.
I thought that as everything was backed up to google, they would re-appear. What didn't I do, apart from pulling sim card?? When saving a phone number, the phone only gives a choice of Phone or Sim. My old Se 750i gave you a choice- one or the other, or both.
As said, I was under the impression that ALL contacts were saved at Google, other wise I wouldn't have reset phone. Is there another way I can get at the phone numbers- or have they vamoosed ?? Fortunately I have them all written down or most of them, just the work now involved in copying them back. Whata mistaka to maka.
Thanks

Leaving sd and sim in is fine when u factory reset mate. It only wipes the user part of the internal memory.
When you save a contact, it should give the option to save to Phone, or xxxx@gmail.com (your gmail address).
Did u enter your gmail addy and password when you first turned the phone on (and after the reset)?
If the contacts werent saved to your google account then theyre gone man :(
P.s, dont regret the reset. The phone will be healthier now and if anythin, its tought u something

If I open Contacts- Menu- there is a line saying " merge with google account"- would that be it ??. No sign of sync. S3 Galaxy
Thanks.

Yeah, - don't do a phone reset when topped up with the falling down water. :-)

Not sure. I would do that as a last resort. Instead try first seeing if the sync is set up in your google account.

Settings > Google > tap on your gmail email account name and check if "sync contacts" is ticked.

If it is, go online on a computer and check in your google account whether you have all your contacts present.

Thanks for the info--just checked on google on phone-that is ok, so went to gmail on puter, and find that is correct. Great stuff.

What am I overlooking?

I've done this before and have saved and aligned my contacts with my gmail account, but all of a sudden I can't get it to work. I go through the process and it seems to take a maximum of a second to sync and states current time and date for last sync, but a new contact I put on phone earlier today is not showing in the list on PC. I am of course refreshing browser window. Has to be something simple I am missing?
