Help Continued Support?

I purchased the HTC Inspire in August of 2011, and thought it was great, except it eventually fell behind on the software capabilities, as it is running Gingerbread. I want to know if Samsung will be able to keep up with the times on the GS3 as the S4 comes out, or will it ditch trying to make the GS3 better as it improves functionality of the S4 and develops the S5. I really don't want to go over to Apple, but they seem to be the only company that can keep their devices up to speed with the newest OS's. And I won't root my phone. Absolutely not. I just figure that if the Galaxy line really is an Iphone killer, then the older hardware support needs to be top notch as well. Anyone have any ideas on this?

The S2 is still getting updates. Seems to me it will be supported for 2 years. Lets see how long support for the S2 lasts.

However there comes a point where support MUST stop. The more support, the less money goes into future development so there is a balance to strike there

I'm not really sure that's something anyone can really give you a concrete answer on.

From what I have seen Samsung seem to be pretty slow when it comes to rolling out the android updates.

But if you look at it from a business perspective Samsung are going to want to make their devices look as desirable as possible, this coupled with the fact that the GS3 is currently sporting some of the top hardware means in my eyes it is pretty likely that they will continue to update the firmware but we will have to be patient in receiving the updates.

They won't want people, when asked about the phone to say negative things like...It's a good phone but it's out of date now because Samsung stopped making updates.

I know u say u wont root but even after official support for the s3 ends, i think it will still have strong developer support

Yeah. There will be S4 ports no doubt :)

With my HTC desire, it got Desire HD, Sensation, Sensation XL ports... Then all the AOSP ROMS.
