Root Convince Me If You Can

If I weren't so pleased with Assonance I'd have tried another ROM by now, like Darky Port 7.01 or Ginger Clone 2.2 Final, or whatever. That said, if there was a post that was undeniably convincing I'd take the leap. Something on the order of "I've tried them all and, without a doubt and speaking with total objectivity, [fill in the blank] is the best for the following reasons." And not because of a transient woody, but rather something more on the order of priapism.

I haven't tried Assonance, Perception, or Azura (?) ... I've tried Cognition, GeoMod, and one that I had so briefly that I've already forgotten the name.

I'm currently using Darky Port 7.01. And, ignoring the fact that I lack the necessary parts to have any sort of woody... the ROM just seems...put together. More so than any other ROM I've used. Everything seems to work, the transitions are fabulous (they flip!), and I've had no issues with battery usage. I even seem to be getting more signal where I am currently. I haven't checked the GPS yet, but given the general GPS fail, I don't expect much, regardless.

That being said...I'm of a "to each their own" mindset. Darky's works for me...Assonance may work well for you...and really, as long as your happy, that's all that matters, yes? :)

Hey! Welcome back! Good to see your avatar again.

The "necessary parts" is figuratively speaking, but the message remains. :)

If I remember correctly, you adopted a custom ROM mentality quite a while back. So you know that each new day brings a question mark to what "worked" for you yesterday. Yes, I'm happy with Assonance and could easily live with it long-term (in our environment, another week or so). But...I always welcome objectivity from those in the know.

Thanks for your input.

As long as the rom is based on 2.2.1 jpy build you should install it, whether its darky/doc's or any other rom its simply a matter of taste since its only the theme/apps that differ between them. The jpy build is the official froyo build from samsung, it contains a lot of speed tweaks and a lagfix isn't even necessary.

Personally im using doc's rom since he came out with the jpy build before darky, it has a plain theme but i added one that i liked after that.

Yeah, I've been using ROMs on my phone since probably...September? I used some variation of Cognition for quite awhile, and there's definitely a lot more out there now then there was several months ago.

Nothing says you can't backup what you're doing, try something else, and if you don't like it, restore to your backup.

But yeah...I've been having some strange bluetooth issues for several days, over several ROMs...not sure if my phone's bluetooth has officially flaked out or if my computer is just being evil to me. But since it's been over several ROMs, I know its not the ROMs fault.

My first Leap into Custom ROMs was Darky's 6.0.3 and I have since updated to 7.0.1 and I just can't see even trying any other ROMs I am that pleased with it. I will update the Darky as they come out but it hard to imagine that I would change to something else. I am just a casual phone user but the more I read about other ROMs built on newer Firmware that I was probably never going to get from AT&T I had to at least try something else and I am glad I did. There might be some things that other ROMs have that power user might need or want but so far so good for me.

I've learned that members who've gone to custom ROMs frequently adopt a favorite and can't imagine switching to another flavor. When you think of this at a higher level it speaks volumes for going to the dark side and no longer being held hostage by Samsung. We have happy campers and, if there's a fault to be found, it's in the wish of those yet to find a favorite to continue to test the waters with different ROMs to see if they can be even happier.

So, is this really the "dark" side...or is the camp awaiting Samsung's next move the ones on the dark side? Only time will tell.

I was on assonance till 5.0 then I started getting phone FC...I mean whats the use of a phone when I cannot make calls lol

then I had same dilemma of choosing new rom..Cog was my first rom..i liked it but didnt wish to go back, i used perception but i didnt like it much...

then i heard a lot about darky's rom...its pretty famous in I9000 forums...so i tired that...and I am loving it...no fcs none so ever....
I like the feel and look of it...I am using non-voodoo and it runs smooth....

I also noticed many people switched to assonance to Darky's...idk why but it looks like a common trend..

Baring an unreal offering from Samsung (say, skipping Froyo and going straight to Gingerbread and having a GPS fix [a REAL fix] rolled in) ... there's little they can do to make me move from custom ROMs.
