Convince me into not returning the phone

Not open for further replies.
First off I'd like to add myself to the list of users who are disappointed with the battery life, no I will not buy a 50 dollar battery after spending 300 dollars on this.

Second, my favorites widget on my home screen is faulty. I added a contact, I press (select) the contact, choose to text OR call the selected contact and it brings up a totally different contact, absolutely frustrating

Third, Why is there stock apps on my phone that I can't delete!?

Fourth, I came from an LG ENV Touch and I was able to get to a desired contact in under 2 seconds by typing the name in the keyboard. When I go to my contacts I have to hit the search button then start typing the contacts name. STUPID

Fifth, When I flip my phone from vertical to horizontal there's about a 3-4 second lag

Sixth, Facebook sync (which I didn't even tell it to do) went horribly wrong. Wrong info EVERYWHERE and then on top of that I can't even EDIT IT!!

This phone is over complicated for NO REASON. I'm not going to force myself to like it because I hate it.

Well, if you are looking for someone to talk you out of returning a device you are obviously not happy with, you have come to the wrong place. I really don't even think anyone would even take the time to read your post to it's entirety.

I will, however make a comment to one of the "problems" that you are having. In regards to the phone having apps that you are unable to remove, you have to understand that Motorola did not put any of that stuff on there. That would be Big Red and all their glory. If you don't like it...root and install a debloated ROM.

That is all the advice that I have other than just to tell you that you probably need to go ahead and return it and get a device that is more to your liking. As long as it takes to become eligible for an upgrade, I would hate to be stuck with something I did not enjoy having.

1. What are you doing with your phone? Are you constantly running things, using GPS, using data, auto-checking emails every minute? You need to state what your habits are before saying the battery life sucks. I get 13 hours out of my Bionic, using JuiceDefender. I'd try it out.

2. Yes. I'd switch to another widget instead, or not use one at all.

3. By stock you mean bloatware? It's like any other Verizon phone. Root, and you can make it all go away.

4. The Bionic does not have a keyboard. The search button is the absolute fastest way possible. Period.

5. Like every Android phone. The turning transition hides this a bit, which is better than most other Android phones on the market.

6. Are you sure you didn't tell it to? If you add your Facebook account, or if you're like me and did the syncing through Yahoo then moved it over to Google, then they're going to sync. I'm pretty sure you can just delete them anyway. You can also hide them in the Display Settings in the Contacts app.

It's not overcomplicated, it's just different.

I came from an enV Touch as well, my dad from a blackberry. I was confused at first, but after you start using it, you find you can make things happen how you want them to happen, versus the enV or any other phone like it.

I'm sorry if I sound like a jerk right now, but every other thread on this forum has to do with returning the Bionic.

Quite frankly, if you want to return it, do so. To each, his own.

Okay if you're just gonna come in here and talk down to me and say "no one is gonna read this." Then why did you even post? Thanks for the info, tsk. Forums are a community this is my first post and someones already talking down on me.

I was just hoping for a "You must have gotten a lemon, try exchanging it for another one and see if that clears up any of your problems."

Well... :p

Sorry for not explaining. No I work 12 hour days. I'm on my phone during my lunch break and it sits in my locker during the other 11 hours of work. I simply go on FB, Twitter, read/respond emails and respond to missed called and texts.

You should do that... but if you thought that, why didn't you do that before posting?

But yes, duds do happen. My Bionic has been nearly problem free, fixed with UNL3ASH3D.

Try out JuiceDefender.

Seriously, you'll be like WOAH once you see you get 1.5x battery life.

Understand that I was not trying to talk down to you by any means. But, by posting a subject that states "Convince Me...." and then by following that up with a post of a bunch of things that make a reader truly think that you really don't like the device...the answer is simple...Change the device.

Honestly, when I looked at your reasons for not liking the device, I thought they were a little minor, but that is me. For you, these might be major flaws and affects the way that you feel about the phone. That is the beauty of it, there are so many devices out there, you are sure to find something that better fits your needs with less problems.

I have had the Bionic since Friday. I LOVE it. I already expected some issues. ALL the phones have them! If i were you I would exchange it and give it another shot. Coming from an env, well thats a big difference. Maybe you still need to get used to it. I am having almost no issues with mine. What issues I do have are most likely user error.:) As far as the $50 battery goes, Verizon is running a half off sale right now. I went online at Verizon to order but they were out of stock, so I called Verizon and the rep checked their other warehouse and they had them in ,on sale, so I ordered it. This is a sweet phone and I for one, am keeping it!

To the OP:

Doesn't the quote below answer your question?

. . . every other thread on this forum has to do with returning the Bionic.

I haven't seen a phone this hyped come out so flat, only to be overshadowed by much higher-quality phones (Vigor, Prime/Charge 2/Galaxy Nexus, Rev 2) coming within 2 months of its release.

And you know already that these phones wont be flat, I see. They will be bug free also, I see.

Woah, George is upset!

Of course they'll be buggy, and they'll be flat compared to next year's quad-core Krait, super thin LTE-included processors. But I haven't seen a jump in specs this big so soon. The screen and camera alone are big enough reasons to return this thing.

If there wasn't anything coming out til next Spring that was so much better, I could see keeping it. But with full HD, bigger screen, and better camera (if HTC and Samsung stick to what they've been doing) coming out within 8 to 10 weeks of the Bionic's drop, it's a no-brainer.

Not to mention that Motorola themselves are coming out with a much thinner Spyder/RAZR so soon after the Bionic.

It's obvious that this thing was meant for a May release. But it got so damn delayed that it's outlived its shelf-life barely out of release. I just feel bad for those that couldn't wait, are now past their return window, and are stuck with a previous-gen phone for the next 2 years.

I got caught up in it, bought the thing, and came to my senses 2 days later when I had to go into airplane mode to get my 4G signal back every other hour, and had to stop using the music player because I was getting a headache from the whining in the background.

The screen majorly sucked too. Pics were washed out and dull. Unfortunately, software updates aren't going to fix those ugly-as-hell moles on this girl's face.

It must be pretty sweet to be able to use all these new phones months before they come out. Since you have first hand knowledge of all those devices can you confirm a few things for everyone? How do the screens look and what are the resolutions? How is the build quality compared to the Bionic? How fast and smooth are they compared to the Bionic? Can you confirm the specs for us? Can you tell is exactly how they overshadow the Bionic in your hands on opinion? I am sure others will have questions as well.

Sure, Frag!

1. Screens look awesome. SAMOLED Plus in HD is even more vibrant and crystal clear than the already-superior-to-pentile-crap-qHD-screen-on-the-Bionic SAMOLED Plus. I don't know if you guys know this, but 720p with 316ppi is much better than 480p with 200ppi on the Bionic.

2. Build quality is excellent. HTC is sturdy yet polished. The Samsung model will feel a bit plasticky to some, but without the sharp nasty corner on the Bionic's battery cover. It will also be thinner for those who don't like the I-Think-I-Took-An-Accidental-Dump feeling in their pockets.

3. The TI OMAP 4460 and 1.5GHZ is much better than the Bionic's 1GHZ processor.

I think that this will cast a huge shadow over the poor little Bionic.

Although I'll give you one thing. The Bionic poor man's Natalie Portman was mildly attractive. But I hear the real (and superior) real Natalie Portman will be touting the Prime! :D

Ummm welcome to the forums, BobSaget! :o:D

Let me first tell you why you should keep an Android smartphone in general. Especially from a person who's coming from a non smartphone. I know you probably already did your research but I wanted to give you my feed back based on your title thread.

Pros:

-The best thing about an Android phone is...there's sooo much to learn. And you have a bunch of resources to do that. One is here. You sorta already got a wide variety of responses. :p
-An Android phone can be customized with the use of apps and rooting. So some of your issues can probably be fixed and you can be the one who fixes it. You can change or replace your stock apps, change the font, add more widgets...etc.
-An Android smartphone is a mini computer and if you have an LTE device the internet browsing is far superior than on a feature phone.
-You're jumping in the smartphone era just in the right time (except for tiered data) because the devices are all pretty good. If you think there's bugs now, you should've seen the earlier android phones.

Now the cons:

-Battery life is gonna suck compared to a feature phone for obvious reasons. Not one smartphone is gonna give you as much battery life. I know you already know this but I'll say it anyways. :p
-It can be super complicated because there's sooo much to learn. But that'll be fixed through time. You already started by signing up as a member of these forums. :D
-Bugs bugs bugs...It's the way of the smartphone but like I said...some can be fixed at least and you don't have to wait for Verizon to fix it.
-Apps aren't perfect because people make crappy apps haha. But at least there's a bunch of good ones that are free.

Ok that's it for my general response. As for the Bionic...

I would suggest returning it buuuut if you can return it for a refund and get it somewhere else cheaper...I would totally do that. Or...you can try out a different phone all together but shop around. $300 is a lot of money and it makes it seem even more when you are having issues. I'm not saying $200 or under is a drop in a bucket but you might be able to save money so you can put it towards an extended battery. That's just my thought.

The Bionic is a great device and I really think it'll keep you happy for 2 years or until your next upgrade especially for what you want it for. I don't think you need a quad core or 1.5 ghz phone that may have the same issues with battery life.

Again. Welcome to the forums. I hope to see you around learning all you can!

Have a good one!

1. battery life is FINE with the extended battery for a "whopping" cost of $27.05 with tax (in CA).

2. I've got direct dial shortcuts on the home screen for instant dialing. I have also put contacts shortcuts on the HS, as well, but prefer the "direct dial" feature.

3. No lag here for landscape vs portrait orientation.

4. No FB issues.

having said that, I don't care if you get rid of your phone any more than you care that I keep mine. 'nuff said.

You should just get a jitterbug. Probably be easier for you. :p

LOL. Awesome. I think this is one of the very few times I actually laughed when I said "lol".

Anyways, to the OP ... exchange it, your problems aren't normal.

I came from a blackberry and the learning curve to this device was huge for me. But now that Im slowly getting a hang of it .... I absolutely love it.

That was funny, I have to admit but I think you are right, thatguy. It's a mixture of the jump from feature phone to smartphone and possibly a bad device for the OP.

At any rate, at least the first one can be remedied by some of the helpful members here in AF.

To pose a question...

If you all hate the Bionic so much, why are you still here?

Surely you have something better to do than to waste time telling everyone in the Bionic forums how much the Bionic sucks and how you are waiting for the Prime/Vigor/any other phone that is newer than the Bionic.

Something new is always on the horizon.
