Convince me to buy the Nook

The NookColor at $249, rooted, is a great price for an Android tablet. However, running Android 2.1 on a 833 processor has me worried that it's already maxed out. The salesman at B&N said it would be updated to 2.2 in Feb or March, but I thought Froyo needed 1ghz minimum.

In addition, I'm no expert when it comes to rooting. I've rooted an Eris and an Inc, but there was already a lot of support for those phones. As evidenced by the lack of folks hitting up the Nook threads, the support seems like it would be a bit slim. I wouldn't be afraid to try, but would like the safety net of an experienced forum if needed.

Is it worth it to dive in now, or should I wait for the next gen of NC?
 
I personally am getting the Archos 43 but anything by archos is well built and works nice, it does have one fault and that is no Android market but you can find it online line download it then transfer it and have it
 
The fact that there aren't a wealth of posts here does not, by any means, indicate a lack of interest or support. There's a whole lot of people over on XDA working on the NC. The best guess right now is that many/most of the NC's being sold are wrapped up and being given as XMAS gifts.

Personally I think the NC is one of the best built Android tablets I've seen... If some of the folks on XDA have their way we'll be seeing custom ROM's for the NC in the very near future.

Agreed. I played with one, I really liked it. I would own it if Archos hadn't gotten off their butt. Last night I had opportunity to compare my 70 to a NC. Using my nook app, I can say the screen on the nook was a tiny bit better for reading...but not enough to make me give up what I have. The archos feels better in hand to me also.

Either one seems a solid choice.
