Maybe I'm the last one to discover this but I discovered how to have Holidays on the Note calendar. Go to the PC version of Google calendar and choose the drop down calendar (browse interesting calendars) add US holidays. Now the option will appear on the Note

You can also include the US Holidays by bringing up your calendar, menu --> Calendars --> I showed the option to add the Holidays from there.

Maybe I had taken the steps the OP listed, but I don't remember doing that.
