Root Coolpad Rom Questions

I noticed that the stock system recovery menu -> "only update via modem" option looks for "sdcard/cp.rom" possibly to install an update or full flash. Not sure if we can load a file with that name to the sdcard but it's worth asking.

Does the device look for a key or signed file for the rom?

Can you just update it without the full flash?

Not a lot of info an the web, at least none I could find.

Thanks,

Can anyone point me in the direction of info on creating .rom format files? I'd like to try flashing the system files through the stock recovery.

LOL, now I need the modem firmware for metropcs. Not sure if it's model specific. Probably is.

I answered a few of my own questions.
There is no check for a signed file.
This process is only for the modem firmware.

Since the update via modem->cp.rom function is modem firmware, I assume to provision the device or just update the modem.

Any chance of the modem firmware floating around? I assume a dump would work if this model were rooted but of course it's not at the moment.

TIA for any help.

I'll see what I can do to help.

Thanks spank,

Odd thing, 4G data wasn't affected. I lost display of esn, phone number and a few others in about phone. I changed some of the same info on a galaxy prime I flashed to metropcs once. I used a script pre-written by some folks at xda and modified it with my msl, phone number etc.

I have a backup service with virgin mobile on the alcatel venture. To be honest I don't know what was erased during the supposed update. It erased some part of the flash and proceeded to write the firmware to the same area. I have to find out what format the cp.rom is supposed to be and if it contains account data or not. Adding or updating provisioning is what I assume it's function is for now.
