Howdy,

I purchased the LG Esteem a week ago and I love the phone. It is my first Android phone; I am a recovering iPhone-holic.

With the iPhone, you only have to click the home and sleep button to copy whatever is currently displaying on your screen. What is the LG Esteem/Android equivalent for this function?

Also, there are so many Internet videos and discussions about 'rooting' android phones. My only understanding of rooting is the ability to tether and use your phone like a modem. Beyond this factor, what are others reason why a person would want to root their phone?

Thanks in advance! :D

gotta understand there are more than 1 cell phone making company that uses android as their os. now with that being said theres only 1 phone company with the ios and thats the iphone. apple controls the ability and functions of their phone component wise and softwarewise. they deicided on their products to be able to snap screen shots and that was nice of them. now Lg ,samsung, htc and all those other low end phones using android have that same choice to allow their phones to do such a function but why when in the android market theres already free apps to take screen shots. so instead of focusing on the issue of a screenshot method they are concentrating on other things like better cameras, dual core processors, better graphics,multi-media functions such as hdmi output and such. i think u get the point. Now why would people root their phones beside to use wifi-tethering? very easy answer rooting is our way of jailbreaking the iphone ;) not that we need it to install free apps that can be done without rooting but its more than just that imagine being able to install custom roms and kernels that unlocks the full potenial of your phone, perhaps your unsatified with the stock rom your with and would like to remove boatware and tweak it up to make it faster more efficient smoother. thats some of the examples but i hope that helps you to better understand why people root.

I had a similar arguments about being root on my esteem. Some people are really care that once you buy a phone, the phone has to be 99,9% is belong to you as the owner; aka, you take control almost 100% of your phone (first of all, once you put other roms on it). In your case, metropcs "hides" (i think is a business reason) the ability of the phone to take a screenshot, once you root it, you can put that app in the phone. Some ppl are very annoyed by ".hello..hello...metropcs bla....".but others don't mind since this only happened when u reboot the phone. But one a very strong and only reason for me to root my phone is to put roms that makes my phone has 2 ghz speed instead of 1.2; without being rooted, it is Not possible to put this rom. Believe me, rooted then put a rom is so ...;) and . I hope this help you to understand about root on android phone since I had iPhone years ago and similar feeling about this.
