Root coredriod v8.1 rom recently updated

Flashed this rom last night and all i can say is wow! Smooth, fast, great signal and sense 3.0 done perfect. Great signal and wifi. Tons tweaks too. Check it out fellows. I deff reccomend it. Heres link [ROM][10 SEP] CoreDroid HD V8.1 |GB 2.3.4|SENSE 3|SUPER SMOOTH|LordMod KERNEL|ONLINE - xda-developers

I just rooted my Inspire today. Have yet to install a custom ROM. Thinking of starting with this one. Did you also flash one of the recommended radios? I'm still a bit hesitant to start messing with the radio and wonder how well this ROM would work with the one that is currently installed.

funny you would ask that cause i was just in middle of looking for the recommend radio. I didn't install the recommend one but i have decent service here almost same as usual. call quality is pretty good just a tiny bit less as good as stock, but for me its clear enough and i really dont feel like flashing a radio lol I also flash a few roms a month so it really dosent make sense to keep flashing radios if the one i have works fine.- Drizzy

and p.s. your stock one i would say should be good enough but i cant say for sure depending on a few factors (signal quality exc.) but give it a go it cant hurt to try, just make sure make a backup of your current rom.

I installed this ROM a few days ago...its amazing...but the radio made a difference in the battery....The old radio i dont think was strong enough or something so i was getting no more than one or two bars but once i put the new radio and RIL file that went along with it, i was seeing 3 or 4 bars everywhere and always getting H+ service...and the battery got better.

Could you tell me exactly which radio you used? I'm looking at the thread on xda and there are three different ones it recommends. But from what I can tell these are for the DHD. Does that mean that these radios are designed for use in Europe? From what I've been reading, radios will give different performance depending on location. Is it reasonable to expect quality performance from a radio meant for use in Europe when used in the US?

Forgive me if these are really stupid questions. I'm just trying to get a better understanding of the details or radios before I start flashing arbitrarily.

Thanks.

Last night I got enough courage to root and install a custom ROM. I picked the first one I saw and it was the Coredroid. All I can say is WOW!!!! This is a great ROM. Tons of speed and looks. I'm glad I decide to finally root. I think my next one is CM7

Evrery one says cm7 is great but idk to me it was freezeing up alot n laging but maybe i just had bad luck with it. If u do flash it let me know how the latest version is- drizzy

I used the third radio in that list, 12.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2 with the RIL file that went along with it....but it is a risky operation not because it could be the wrong radio (its the right one...) but just the fact that flashing a radio in general is risky cause if anything goes wrong during the process you can brick the phone....but there are two ways the flash it...one way is safer than the other....i did the way it explained on the coredroid link...doing eng s-off and using the adb boot...but from what i hear its sooo dangerous that way or to even be eng s-off....idk...the other way is do it with a PD98IMG file or something and let the phone update during boot loader...that way you dont need to be eng s-off....

....but i like to live on the edge...but i didnt know one way was more dangerous than the other....hope any of my rambling on helped at all...

but use the radio i used...it works perfectly....and my data i think is a bit faster too...

btw...no question is stupid....LOL

I flashed CM7 before i did coredroid...ill be open and honest about this....

CM7 SUCKEDDDD.....you need sense...LOL...I cant use a droid device without sense....us HTC users i think are spoiled with sense...and CM7 was kinda slow just didnt feel right on my inspire....idk...i wont use a ROM without sense....it makes the phone cooler when you unlock the screen and have clouds or a windshield wiper go across the screen...especially when a non droid user plays with your phone...makes iPhone users with they had a droid...:D:D:D

Lol yea i totaly agree. I mean i love andriod, but pure andriod with no htc sense isnt for me. Im like you i need some animation. Kinda why i left iphone after like 2 years. Ios is just boring. If i want see ios now on my andriod i just open up my app draw n scroll lmao.

Thanks for the info. That risk is exactly why I'm so hesitant to experiment with different radios. Can't afford to replace this phone if something goes wrong. I don't believe I have ENG-Off so I'll most likely use the bootloader process. From what I've read, this is a safer technique...If I summon up the nerve to give this a shot, I'll try the radio you suggest.

btw...no question is stupid....LOL

No such thing as a stupid question...Just stupid people that ask 'em...Am I right? :D

it goes something like that....ive herd no such thing as stupid questions...just stupid answers...LOL....let me know how it goes...

I installed Coredroid 8.1 last night. This was my first time flashing a custom ROM as I just rooted my phone this weekend. Other than the system font, I do like the way this looks with the color icons in the status bar and menus. But for me, everything seems to be really slow. The screen transitions are choppy. There is a bit of a delay when opening apps. When I open the app drawer everything is the basic android icon until they all slowly start to change to the proper icon. When the phone is in standby and a call comes in there is a 3-5 second delay before the phone would wake up and start ringing. And overall the graphics didn't seem to be as sharp as they are with the stock ROM. Everything seemed just a bit blurred.

I spent a few hours playing around with it hoping it would improve but I got so frustrated with it that I ended up restoring the backup of my stock ROM. Any ideas as to why the performance was so slow for me? Like I said, this was the first time I installed a custom ROM, so perhaps there's something I missed. I installed manually through ClockworkMod Recovery. I did the wipe data/factory reset, wiped cache and Dalvik cache. Do I need to give it more time to "settle in" before I see the speed that everyone else is experiencing? Are there basic tweaks that need to be made in order to optimize this for my phone? Thanks for any advice or tips.

Hmm thats weird. I have had a few minor problems with this rom but you gave remember these roms are ported so not perfect. I havent had any speed problems like you decribeing tho. Really dont know wat the problem could been. I would re flash it again and give it another go.

Thanks drizzy. Was thinking about reflashing it tonight and see if it's any different. But there were a couple of little things with how things are displayed that if I can't figure out how to change will over time bug me. Primarily the main system font. I much prefer the font used in the stock ROM. I think I need a separate app to change the font but not sure what the name of the font I want is. Also I noticed that in my contacts, birthdays are displayed as day/month. I prefer month/day. There may be other things I find if I use it more. I know these are little things, but ultimately I want things as I want them. Currently I'm running GO Launcher over the stock ROM and got it configured in a way that I'm happy with. Would like the GPS to lock a bit faster, but for the most part it's fast enough and I'm getting a good day and a half per charge. So ultimately I need to find a ROM that outperforms what I got running now and offers the ability to customize the UI to how I want it.

I also found that if you go into tweaks then click sense then all options you can turn off some uneeded animations and it will help speed up your phone alot

Sum1 please tell me how to change the terrible font on this rom LOL.

There's an app in the market called Font Changer. I used it to change the system font when I had CoreDroid installed, which was for less than a day. You'll need to have the font that you want to use on the phone. I don't recall if the app came with any. I don't believe it did. I just copied a font .ttf from my computer and it worked fine.

Nm figured it out lol

Decided to give this ROM another test drive. Unfortunately was pretty disappointed with it again. Battery drained about 5x faster than the stock ROM. Download speeds dropped from around 700kB/s down to 375kB/s. Flashed recommended radio and let it settle for a few days hoping it would improve. It didn't. Ran GO Launcher over Sense as I did w/ stock ROM. Didn't notice any increase in overall performance. The few added goodies that I could find (Sense 3 lockscreen, native screen shot capability) didn't make up for the battery drain and reduced download speed. Restored my stock backup until I decide on another ROM to try. Preferably one I don't need to change the radio.

I've been absolutely flash crazy since I rooted about 2 months ago...I like to use my ROM's for about a week as has been suggested. I used Coredroid for a while, and found the same problems you did. I didn't lose quite as much on the download speeds, but the battery was not the best. I've tried several different versions of CM7, and don't dislike it except for the native video player. I really do like the Sense, so for the past two weeks, I've been running Android Revolution. Not disappointed at all....fwiw
