Could I go to T Mobile and only buy the phone?

I know it's a silly question, but I just want to make sure.

Also, if I buy it from T Mobile, could I easily insert my current Metro PCS SIM card and activate it? Or do I have to get it unlocked?

Thanks.

You need to sign up with them for two months then they will give you the unlock code and then you can do whatever you want.

Metro is owned by T-Mobile. T-Mobile also partnered with Ting.
You can bring a newly purchased T-Mo phone to either of these service providers.
Shop eb@y, people are selling their T-Mo G4 upgrades at decent prices.

If you buy the phone outright, which I'm pretty sure T-Mobile will be more than happy to accommodate without buying service from them, there's no reason for any waiting period for them to give you an unlock code.
Probably a 2-3 business day wait at most.

The exception to this would be the phones for pre-paid service,I'm certain a minimum of a month or two of service is required.

Yes but you need to go to a Tmoble owned store the franchise stores would not sell me a phone without buying a plan. I am using a Tmoble pay as you go plan $30/month 5gb 4G LTE.
