Help Could my Motorola Xoom work as my school PC?

Just a question please (or maybe a few). I'm selling my current MBP and iMac. But before I let both go, can I use my Motorola Xoom to take notes in college and do class papers on the Xoom? I really haven't messed with my Xoom since I'm still waiting for same in the mail (won't sell both my computers until I get farmiliar with the Xoom). Can the Xoom fill in as temp replacement for my computers until I get a new laptop:confused:? Any input would be deeply appreciated.

May God Bless!

I doubt it. No physical keyboard is going to make it very, very hard to type the 5-10 page papers you have to do for college. Of course you can add a BT keyboard. Then you're limited in that you only have network connectivity if you have a network cable and you can't plug one into the Xoom. At that point, you're better off spending your $500 on a laptop. It's got a physical keyboard and more horsepower than the Xoom.

to the OP,

need more info as to what you need your tablet to do.

there are BT keyboards you can use with the tab so that is not an issue. there are also writing apps you can use with a stylus. android has many apps than can be used.. just depends on what you need the tab to do.

for my needs which are im sure different than your needs (im not in school), the tab has totally replaced my laptop..

There are solutions for external keyboard. That's no issue.
But how do you want to print without any other infrastructuer between XOOM and printer?
Do you also have homework that you need to submit? If yes how do you want to find compatible SW?
eg. I need to work a lot in MS office. There is no solution which can replace the desktop version (even if office suite pro is already half the way).
If you just make notes and catalog them in a file structure the Xoom should be suffcient. However you should use an external keyboard (or make a record of the lessons instead ;-) ).

I would say no. The xoom can not replace the laptop simply because there isn't word processing software near as rich in features for android as you'd find on Linux/windows/Mac OSs. I've tried both officesuite and quickoffice, and although they work great for reading and editing, writing a full report would be a nightmare. Just my two cents.

First, did the OP say they wanted Wifi only? I would've *loved* having a 3G tablet in school. I have no problem printing to my printer at home with apps on the Xoom. And for grad school, with the BT keyboard I write papers on it all the time. My concern would be Power Point- it's a major pain to create a power point on a tablet, IMO. Otherwise, I don't see any big problems.

Depends on what other software you need, too. I was a math.comp sci major and we used some software I couldn't get on a tablet. But we also had a lab with computers just for comp sci majors. For grad school I have to use my desktop for Visio and MS Project as well.
