Help Couldn't Turn On --> Battery Level Drop

About 20 minutes ago my galaxy nexus became unresponsive and I could not turn it on. I took out the battery and put it back and it turned back on. However, my battery level dropped about 20% in that 1 minute span, what happened?

holy cow. are you on stock everything?

it may have still been running and the screen was unresponsive during that time. maybe a bad app or something. was the battery hot?
 
Yup, stock everything because I just picked it up today. I'm new to android so didn't want to screw up anything yet! Was hoping to install AOKP once I find a good step by step guide.

Is stock that bad?
