Root Couple of easy questions

How to change boot animations (not logos) without flashing them, I tried it with esfile explorer but it wont over right the one that's already in my system/media file? I know it has to be "bootanimation.zip" but I try to paste it over and it won't work.

What's the best way (or program) to back up a custom rom with all the apps and features that I've apply to it. I'm thinking I can do it with clockworkmod but unsure of the steps or should i use titanium backup and if titanium what system files should i not back up. I'm looking to restore to original factory rom and make a backup so that I can easy return to it from a custom rom whenever I want. I already know the thread about returning phone to factory original just want to know about backing up roms.
There are probably threads already about these questions but I couldnt find one about these specifically and sorry if my questions are confusing. Thanks for any help and this is an awesome community.

Did you enable root access to ES File Explorer before you tried this? Also, try deleting the current one first then adding the new one. I have used that file explorer to do it many times, I know it works.
EDIT: What ROM are you using, the location may be different depending on what ROM you are running.

Do it in ClockworkMod Recovery. Here is a quote from http://androidforums.com/triumph-all-things-root/445483-guide-installing-cwm-custom-rom-motorola-triumph.html
Making a Nandroid Backup.

A NANROID backup is basically a backup of your android operating system from the phone’s NAND memory, saved to the storage card. It is always advisable to take a Nandroid backup of your phone before you attempt to flash a new ROM to it so that in case anything goes wrong, you can revert your phone back to its previously working state. In the following section, I will tell you how you can take a NANDROID backup and restore your phone from one you’ve already taken.

1. Boot into CWM (see first section above, step 13).

2. Select backup and restore (use the menu button to select).

3. Select backup.

4. This will make your backup. It is not a bad idea to copy the file (from ...) to somewhere on your computer as well.

For how to change boot animation:

I used root explorer

/system/media

and make sure to hit Mount R/W before you click paste. or it wont overwrite.

I am assuming you are rooted. In ClockWorkMod (CWM) on your first scrren there is "backup and restore". That will backup your phone with everything just like it is. When you want to restore simply pick the date of the backup and it is all there.

Awesome! Thank you guys very much...Very fast and informative replies. I will give it all a try. Seems pretty straight forward
