Yeah not worried about "surfing the web" while on the phone, but if I am on a conf call and someone sends me an email to look at then it becomes a problem as I have to hang up get the email and then call back. So that could be a problem.
actually he's exactly right. the email is pushed over the data connection.
If you are on a call with "john" and John says "hey I'm going to email you this spreadsheet we are talking about so you can look at the numbers that we are discussing" - then you have to hang up, wait for the email to get to you and the spreadsheet downloads to the device. then once you have the email and spreadsheet you can call john back, and tallk to him while you look at the spreadsheet.
Similarly MMS goes over data and wont arrive. Only Sms will get through on a call. Reason is becasue SMS actually exploits a small gap in the voice network (I seem to maybe recall in the channel that routes the call but I'm not sure exactly) where there is just enough space to fit 160 characters of data. That's why sms is so old from before phones had data and why there is a 160 character limit for true sms messages.
I know on Palm and Winmo OS it behaves as I described. But might be somethign BB does with voip on EVDO. If you get a chance would be cool to try it on your BB's and report back.
