Help Couple Quick Questions

I have been having a problem today with my phone getting hot. A couple hours ago the temperature while charging for 20 minutes went up to 118

Where are you finding the temp of the phone?

A widget called Gauge Battery Widget out of the market. I also have Elixr 2, which is giving me the same reading.

i'm disappointed with the sound alert options for incoming calls, texts and emails. what are my options to expand my choices? i have a mac book. will this complicate my ability to download ringtones etc? also i am not tech savvy, so if rooting my phone is an option, i'm afraid to go there.
