Root Couple rooting questions...

jackals

Newbie
Hey guys LG Ally here.

I went to the website Android Ally

If I choose
Universal Androot 1.6.2

I then click 'root' -- what do I do then? I want the raved Velocity 0.4 -- if someone could give me simple procedure on what to do after getting universal androot 1.6.2 that would be great. - Never rooted an android before

If u click root, then u get superuser permissions. U should dwnld V 0.4 onto the sd card, not in any folders or anything. Then u can downld rom manager from the market. Its free. Then click flash clockwork recovery. If it says "allow superuser permissions, click always and press yes. Then press reboot recovery. Click wipe, and press wipe user data. Then click flash .zip file. Press velocity 0.4. Then click reboot.

Pardon the many steps in a row.. let me break down what you said:

Download the androot 1.6.2 and then click root ( I now have superuser permissions).

Once this is done -- I download velocity 0.4 onto my SD card thats in my phone.

Once this is done -- I then download rom manager from market

In Rom manager i choose flash clockwork recover (what does this do?)

Once I click flash clockwork recover, I then should see "allow superuser permissions", I want to click always and then press "yes" - then press reboot recovery (does the phone reboot now?) or what happens now.. if it doesn't reboot, I assume I click wipe, and then click "wipe user data"

That is what I understand -- the last part
- while the program is still up?..I click flash .zip file, and then choose velocity 0.4 which should show up? and then I click reboot (phone reboots and restarts with everything new?)

Flashing Clockwork recovery lets u download custom roms and kernals.
So after u flash cw recovery, press the button that says reboot recovery.
After it reboots, u should see someting that says stuff and has green text.
Use the keyboard to go down to wipe
Then press userdata wipe
After thats done, press back until u see the menu again.
After that, u press flash .zip file
Then u find Velocity 0.4
After thats done, press reboot then login with gmail account
Sorry for that.
You can always boot into recovery by shutting down phone.
Then u hold power, home, and send until the lg logo pops up. Then u release. =D

This is misinformation!

When wiping before flashing a rom you should always wipe: user data, cache, and dalvik cache to ensure you don't get boot loops. You would also wipe SD:ext if setting up apps2sd.
