What is the max on this?
Like on the Motorola Triumph its 1.4 GHz or 1.3 GHz max.....

The good thing about this phone is you can basically go off of whatever people say about the Evo 3D, since they are the same phone.

Regarding the Evo 3D people seem to report 1.5ghz as stable, with possible higher overclocks.

The difference would be that this is running a new OS and may not work with the root setCPU that was used on the 3D.

Although I have to say... if you haven't used this phone yet it handles everything very well. Unless you are a benchmark junkie there isn't much point to overclocking this CPU.

I'm fairly competent with rooting and modding, but I haven't even touched the Evo V because I don't see how I could improve much on it.

The CPU is rated for 1k, 1.2k, and 1.5k.
That is without overclock, however you could have a "binned" processor only capable of 1.2.

Generally as they age, processors tend to more and more often reach full speed or higher. First runs usually have fewer capable of max speed. We are well into the production run, so unless you get an oddball, or the cpu manufacturer stinks, most should do 1.5 or more.

I think you are both right. Some do better later in the production stage, some are better in the beginning stage.

I think this boils down to the manufacturer and their support of the products they release.
Also on their view of how to represent their company name to the consumers.

Some will batch out great stuff first, Then start cutting corners with quality to curb costs. Others will start out with less than great stuff. Then they'll work their way through the batches to until their most superior product, both in cost and quality, is found.

I'd have to say I think HTC would be the latter. The support they have for their products would show they are very concerned with improvements and quality.

The main question is why do you need Overclocking? How long will you keep phone in Overclock state? How much heat phone will generate? How much power phone will consume? What is the short term and long term impact of heat and processor ahrdware speed on other phone components?

Must be manufacturer specific like Septembersrain said. Intel has said theirs get better as they go along.
