Help Cracked screen after nightly charge

Hi guys I just wanted to share my experiences with my s3,

I brought the s3 only 1 month ago it's my first droid phone coming from an iPhone background.

I really thought this phone was the best smartphone ever made, until today.

Basically I went to sleep with my phone on change on the night stand only to wake up in the morning with a huge crack on my screen. I did not drop the phone and it was in perfect condition when I went to bed.

As you can understand I contacted the store of purchase only to be told that it would cost 200 to repair, of course they did not believe that this happened without me dropping the phone.

From what I have been reading online this is a common problem. If you have a case on the phone and its on change all night it can get very hot and course the screen to crack. Which is a terrible design flaw.

So basically I'm unsure of what to do, if I replace the screen I'm worried that this will happen again. And paying out 200 at time is not an option.

I really do love the s3 and I do not want to give up on it yet, but if this is a flaw which Samsung refuse to repair I may have to return to Iphone :(

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I think this is more of issue which is affects some Galaxy S3s out there. Mine is on a case and it is always on charge overnight, nothing happened in six months, from back in June.
 
I have not had any issues with a cracked screen but if you decide to fix it and you think it is heating up over night why not take it out of the case over night?
 
to call it a design flaw means it was designed to do that which obviously its not intended to crack by itself, are you certain nothing could of fell over on it

I'm going to disagree with you. Something inherently wrong with the design of any product certainly does not mean that the flaw was intentional. Case in point: the Yugo. Do you really think that the car was intentionally designed to be a fireball of a death trap?

Sometimes things just don't function as fully intended. This hasn't happened to me yet and I charge overnight with an OtterBox case and Zagg screen protector on.


Droid699, where else did you read about this?
 
Ive had an AT&T S3 and a Verizon S3 and I know someone with a tmobile S3 and I've never heard of this before. Certainly not common.

This is an option, however the question is, do I repair the phone and hope this dose not happen again, as if it did I would not be happy, also if this turns out to be heat related issue, this would be worse, as I live in a very hot climate and its not even summer haha.

I have also stopped leaving it on charge over night.

Have you spoken to Samsung about it? what case have you got? it could be possible that if the case is putting pressure on the screen the heat may make it crack so could just be a poorly designed case?

I live in the middle east and have had my international S3 since June, never had this problem and my phone gets super hot when it's in the car and 50 degrees outside.

Ok maybe design flaw are the wrong words, however I know for sure that the phone screen was fine when I placed it on charge over night and nobody touched it during the night. Unless my wife woke up in the middle of the night an thought, "il show him for missing our anniversary" haha.

Anyway I have decided to replace the screen and hope this dose not happen again. As if it dose it will be my first and last time I deal with Samsung galaxy.

i have the ottacase. im waiting to hear back from Samsung regarding the issue however, they assumed i dropped the phone. they do not believe or will not admit that the screen cracked on its own.
 
ok i have since learned that the front glass can be replaced without changing the hole screen, has anyone else replaced the glass only? i assumed that it was all one part (screen & glass) and that it would all need replacing.
 
I have a spare battery and a wall battery charger, I charge the spare battery and just swap it over when necessary, no problems with phone heating up. Phil
 
Have had my S3 since July and have it on the dock every night and never take it out of the case. It is not even warm in the AM when I take it out?
 
Hmm this is interesting. I recently got the s3 bc my s2 had a cracked screen...over night as well. I baby my phones so much and I thought it was so odd that I had a cracked screen. Now I'm paranoid lol.
 
Your phone should not be generating much heat, if any, just sitting idle on the charger overnight. Certainly not enough to crack a Gorilla Glass screen. If it is you need to figure out what is causing that.
