Help Cracked screen

I have no idea how I did this and I've never had it happen on any of my phones before (including a previous Note 2) but somehow I've cracked my screen. Anyone have any idea as to how much this is going to cost me to replace in the US? Is it worth it?
 
It's worth it, as it will be cheaper than a new device outright, but to have it done properly with an OEM screen it is going to be around 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of a new phone.

I feel for you. You say you are completely unaware of how it happened? You could try a warranty repair, after all you have nothing to lose if they say "no".

Replace it for $20. Here ya go:

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Glass Screen w/ Tool Kit - $19.95

If you have a black Note 3, then I guess you'll have to wait until they are back in stock, but a4c.com is a very reputable website. I've purchased many of my bluetooth accessories from them.
 
Personally I wouldn't try and repair it myself (and I repaired CCTV cameras and TV/VDUs seemingly a lifetime ago) I think you could do more harm than good and you'll certainly invalidate your warranty. Still the option is there

that is cheap.. so cheap that i would do more research into what you are getting.

i am guessing it is ONLY the glass outter .. NOT the digitizer... so be sure the digitizer is still working fine.
and NOT Gorilla glass.
 
I've seen plenty of the replacement videos on YouTube. Frankly they scare me and I would not attempt it. There are shops opening up all over the place that specialize in these repairs. Just be careful in choosing one and expect no liability on their part.
 
C'mon, certainly you must have a guess or two how you cracked your screen!

I can fix it for you.
Pay for overnight shipping both ways and you will only lose it for 2 days tops.

To answer a few questions:

Yes the digitizer seems to be intact. The phone tracks my s-pen perfectly around all three pieces that are now my screen.

Straight up, I really have no idea how my screen cracked. I don't baby my devices but I also don't go throwing them around. This really is the first screen I've ever cracked out of 5 Android phones (and I've had them since the G1 came out) and 3 tablets. It's been a bit cold out but not beyond anything my other phones haven't seen. My Note 3 has seen all the same treatment and conditions as my Note 2. Really, the only difference has been wireless charging using the official Samsung back and a Tylt Vu charger.

Haven't looked into local repair shops as I've not had to use one before but I'll have to Google that later. That said....

Thank you for the link to the glass kit. After a couple of your comments, I looked at some of the glass replacement videos. I clean my own sensors on my cameras (botch that and you render a couple of thousands of dollars useless) and I'll have to agree, I don't think I'd ever attempt this repair myself. I'll definitely be looking at having someone else do it. It'll just be a matter of finding someone I'd trust to do that to my phone.
 
Sorry about your phone :(. I had my note 2 screen replaced and it cost me $100. The repair worked but I had a watermark under the screen so I took it back and after the 2nd repair the home button was not right. Took it back again and the guy said I either had to live with the home button messed up or the watermark. I chose the watermark. The phone worked fine and my wife still uses it. Bottom line is you need to find someone who can fix it correctly, try Samsung it will cost more but it would be done right.

Just my 2 cents.

If you have skills it is not that difficult. Watched my son (with computer skills) repair my daughter's 4s broken screen. Cost $40 for the kit and he watched the video. Took one hour and saved me a couple hundred dollars. Not sure I would try... but I have no skills for this type repair.
Insurance?
 
It does seem to be a lot of cracked screens on the N3's more cracked screens on this phone than any other I've owned or followed forums on..

If you somewhat have the skills you can do it yourself. I repair computers all the time but once my son cracked his ipad screen the first time I decided I wasn't paying 100.00 -150.00 for someone else to do it. Since I have replaced ipad, iPod, and iPhone screens. Cost me $20.00 a pop. Use can see I'm the lone android person in this family :)

really? that seams to me.. very subjective. unless you got real data!

i own a S3.. lots of threads and talks of broken screens.

and also note: the bigger the piece of glass.. the more it is breakable.
i wanted to keep this phone naked without a case.. because it is so sexy.
but because of the size.. i am not brave enough too.

You sure about the Gorilla Glass?

It appears to be an oem product. I would think it would have to be GG3. Even if it isn't though, you could replace it yourself literally 15 times at that price and still be even with one replacement around my parts. I believe I saw an add for retech that wanted $250 to do it on one of the newer android phones. I would definitely try it myself first. At worst you take a box of phone parts to the store and let them do the install for you.

LOL, Subjective? Real Data?
Not sure what kind of data you need.. I'm on 4 Android forums and see thread after thread about cracked screens on SN3s...
That's all the data I need.. I never said they weren't cracked by the users or they are more apt to crack..!
I said my observation is I have seen many threads talking about cracked screens on the note3.. As said before, more on this phone than any other I have owned or followed..
Really just a rhetorical, simple statement and just my opinion, whether you agree or not.. I also own the Note 3.........................
 
The problem with replacing the glass on the N3 is the adhesive that is applied between the sensor and the glass.. Looks pretty tricky and more than I would ever attempt..
If it can go wrong I would be the one it happens to...
Good luck.. I did find one place that does replace only the glass for $150..

I'm new to the forum and this is my first post.

I dropped my Note2 and shattered the glass. I had it repaired at a local cell service and when I went to pick it the disclaimer was the phone my behave like its driving on its own.

Well indeed it does. Its like a gremlin is taking over my controls. Opens and closes the apps without my intervention among other things.

Everything works - the S pen, all apps, etc.

Its starting to drive me nuts as it has become a real PIA - Im constantly rebooting the device to try and correct the issue.

I have Norton security on the phone so there shouldn't be any malware or viruses on it. I also recently updated the phone but that made no difference.

I did a search for further information but came up short.

Any Ideas anyone?

Not sure how to do it now but read about a safe boot..
You may try that and see if the symptoms still occur..
Really sounds like a software issue..

There are twice as many cracked iphones than there are cracked android phones, (and they are pretty tiny as we all know).

After rereading your post and them warning you it may act out on it's own I wonder if they used the adhesive between the screen... That was one thing the place I called this morning said that some places simply put the glass back without the glue and it can cause problems.. I would return it to the repair center and ask for it to be redone.. I really can't imagine repairing something and telling the customer it may still have problems.. Good luck and do an update if you find an answer..

True....
That makes sense, since there are also twice as many or more iphones...
I've owned every model iPhone from day one except for the new iPhone 5/S...
I finally realized they can't compare with Android.. I'll never go back to Apple...
I think my statements or being misinterpreted, I love my N3... Also doubt that their screens are any more apt to cracking than any other phone..
I'm only saying I have seen so many threads about cracked screens, that's all..
The N3 is the best smart phone on the market, bar none.. Once again, that's just my opinion..

Without other's opinions, I would be incapable of buying anything expensive.
I really appreciate the time other's spend on these sites, it's a great help for all. :)

Not a problem, I just thought people were thinking I was knocking the phone..
No way, couldn't love it more..

Love this forum for all the great advice I have received..
Also for all I have learned...

Moving from iPhone to Android involves a bit of a learning curve but keeping up with the forums has actually made it easy and taught me a lot of tricks and features that I would never have known about otherwise.. :-)
Blows away any iPhone I've ever owned..
