Help Crackling during calls

adfgarga

Newbie
My Desire HD is on Vodafone UK. During calls I get a crackling noise every minute or so in the earpiece. It sounds like 3 clicks very close together as if the call has cut out - but it doesn't.

Anyone else get this? I have a feeling my handset is faulty.

Hi

I have a desire barely 3 months old on Orange and the crackling on calls is unbelievably bad. I can barely hear the person on the other line and I have to cut shut my calls as it hurts my ear. I've turned the call volume right down but this still doesn't help. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks

I also get this from time to time ,I have noticed when it does it screen comes on and off I think its to do with how u cover the proximity sensor on a call. I find if I move the phone slightly it gets rid of it but that Might just be me .

Crackling sound is produced when phone switches between 2G and 3G network during a call. Go to Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile networks -> Network mode -> WCDMA Only. By choosing that option you force phone to use only 3G networks.
That solved my crackling problems.

I have mine set to GSM only, yet i still get the crackling sound.

Post #7 is right, but it can also occur in some devices during tower and/or roaming issues.

Updating the PRL ("preferred roaming list") can sometimes remedy the noise and/or drop outs, etc.

Dial *228 and select option 2.

I tried everything HTC wrote me in e-mail...from uninstalling all apps, changing SIM to factory reset and unfortunately nothing helped.
Changed almost every option in settings and problem persisted until I switched to 3G only. I have no more crackling sounds for three days now (approx. 360 minutes of talk time for past three days).
I didn't try GSM only since I have 3G network coverage everywhere.
