Root Crappy battery life...could it be Tasker?

The last few days I've been getting really crappy battery life. I'm running Fresh 3.5.1 with netarchy 4.3.1 (no havs). The only changes I've made are: I've installed Tasker with a couple of profiles (wireless and bluetooth connected), and I've also changed kernels (I used to run netarchy 4.3 SBC (with havs). I changed the kernel afte rthe many posts regaridng possible battery overheading with SBC kernels, although it broke my heart...battery life was great with SBC! Can't really tell if tasker is the problem...I've tried running battery stats and spare parts to look at partial wake usage, but all looks good...my biggest use is from Android System as always. Any ideas? I was thinking of trying the 4.3.1 havs kernel...I've had problems before with havs kernels on my phone, though.

Are you on PRI 1.90? Netarchy's main page states that if you're experiencing battery issues on that PRI, to downgrade. I was in the same boat as you, I installed 4.3.1 HAVS BFS yesterday, and my battery consumption turned terrible. Downgraded my PRI a few hours ago, and battery consumption is back to expected levels.

As far as Tasker is concerned, we'd have to know more about how you're using it to make a better assessment. But try downgrading PRI first, since that straight from Netarchy.

1) Try charging the battery all the way up, unplug it, turn the phone off, plug the phone in until the light turns green, unplug it, repeat the last two steps, unplug it, boot into recovery, and wipe battery stats. Wiping battery stats is more of a formality, and it probably doesn't do much, but the bump charge after switching from SBC might help. It helped me a bit.

2) Try netarchy 4.3.1 with HAVS, as it seems to have addressed most of the issues people were having with HAVS, so try it out if you want HAVS. As Bek said, it might help downgrading your PRI if you're on 1.90. On that same note, you do have the latest radios, right? If not, that could be your problem right there.

3) Can you post your tasker profiles? Tasker can be a battery saver or a battery hog depending on how you use it. Generally, if it's not high on the list of apps the held wake locks, you're good, but that's not always the case. Also, did you change the screen-off polling period (10 minutes is default).

I probably should have mentioned also: I have a Seidio 3500mah extended battery too. I've never really gotten the kind of battery life I've seen from other posters...the best I've seen on my phone is probably about 12 hours.

I'm going to try the 4.3.1 netarchy havs kernel as from all reports it seems to have eliminated the problems with earlier havs kernels...hopefully that will help.

What is the best setcpu governor setting to use with an overclocked kernel? I've been using the "smartass" governor, but I just switched to "conservative" earlier today as I've had some phone lockups and other instability which I think may be due to the "smartass" governor (although I can't be sure).

Are there some key metrics I can look at using Spare Parts or battery monitors to see if there are any "rogue" apps? I've seen a lot of posts about this, but whenever I check partial wake usage or other metrics, it's always the Android System that has the biggest component...everything else barely registers on the scale.

Thanks as always...

1) Governor choice will affect battery life/performance more than stability. Likely, you will get some slightly better battery life out of the conservative governor, but it probably won't affect stability. Are you overclocking? If so, it's more likely related to that.

2) On average, how many minutes would say Android system shows as holding a wake lock per hour? Just because it's at the top doesn't mean it's excessive.

not really sure. just checked partial wakelock and it showed 1m 53sec, and it's been about an hour since I plugged in, just charging w/o use...what else should I check?

Are you checking partial wake usage since last unplugged while it's plugged in? That's not going to help you much. If you want a baseline, wait until it's charged, unplug it, let it sit for a couple hours, then check partial wake usage. That will be a little more accurate.

Forgot to mention that I had already downgraded the PRI version to 1.77 before I made my initial post...sorry. Didn't really see a big improvement...I don't think this is the problem.

I've had the phone off charge for about an hour after full charge...checking partial wake usage. Android System is 6m 34s, everything else is pretty much negligible.

I've always wondered about this: are there metrics for wake usage for various apps? What all is included in "Android System"? I've scanned lots of posts about this but haven't picked up anything definitive.

I grabbed three 3500mah batteries, three extended casebacks, a charger, a car dock all for 30 dollars shipping included off ebay. I only charged the first on so far and got 2 days 17 hours off it. definately worh checking out.
