Craptivate Degrading

Anyone else finding their Craptivate to be slowly degrading over time? Lately the loading time for everything has been terrible, even after uninstalling items. Here is my rant for the day.

Today on my way to my second class ever on this campus...the Craptivate decided not to turn on the screen every time I hit the power button. So here I am wandering around this gigantic, 30-degree campus without Google maps to help me like it did on my way to my first class. I pull the battery and of course have to wait 15 minutes for everything to load into memory, while walking in the general direction where I think the building is located.

I make it to the building and pull out the phone...only to have the GOD DAMN slide-to-unlock screen not function. Does the Craptivate have to be in warm weather to work?

I feel like I've traded in my Windows 7 with 4GB of RAM for a Windows 98 with 256MB.

try rebooting every 3 days or so and open browser hit the menu button then more, settings, scroll down clear cache, clear history. hope it helps

Things like this will likely help.

Not to sound rude, but this is probably an issue with the way you use your phone, and not the phone itself. Even android, running on the hummingbird is bound to grow weary with prolonged, abusive use. I don't know much about android, but I would have to guess it runs similarly to a computer in some regards. Basically, I would guess that you need a disk defragment, or something to that effect.

Go into manage applications and clear the cache of some apps. There are also some specific apps for this that you might consider using regularly. Just market search for 'cache'.

Similarly, an app killer should be considered. There will be no shortage of people trying to convince you otherwise; but in my experience, they can come in handy, when used properly.

Also, a file manager like AndroZip or Root Explorer could be helpful. Go in and find rouge files and folders that aren't doing any good, and wipe em away. Simply uninstalling an app doesn't always clear all traces of it, and if you go through apps like I do, their leftovers can pile up. *Careful not to delete anything important!*

As a last resort, resetting your phone to factory default will absolutely fix your problem (equivalent to a PC reformat). This is a bit extreme, but you know what they say about desperate times...

I have a feeling this is due to file fragmentation, the same issue that ssd drives suffer on the pc, a form of garbage collection usually fixes this.
The latest 2.2.1 roms fix this for the most part, the phone has a lot less lag with a lot of applications installed. A factory reset might temporarily solve the problem, but backup everything before doing so.

I've had my captivate since august. My captivate still runs great. The only thing that is unreliable is the GPS.

- I have never rooted or installed custom ROMs.
- I run ATK, but I have disabled auto-kill. I use it to manually kill Apps that I am not actively using.
- I don't use active widgets. They tend to use battery and processor when I'm not even using my phone. There are always Apps that you can quickly bring up that gives you the same info as a widget.

As far as lag, it doesn't happen very often, but it is only a 3 to 5 second lag. Doesn't happen enough to be an issue.

I use my phone alot, mostly for internet browsing, texting, and facebook.

I'm very happy with the phone. I've thought about installing a froyo ROM, but for now, I'm going to wait for the official release.
