Create Folders in Default Mail App?

In my Note 2 default Mail app (Verizon) I want to create a new folder, then move a message from my Inbox to that folder. Is that possible?

If this is a plain old IMAP email account, just create the folder through whatever you use to access this account on your computer.

The phone will recognize the new folder.

If this is POP3, you can't have folders, whether you are using Note 2 or anything else.
