i have rom manager and bootstrap installed and when i try and back up current rom it reboots but when i go back into rom manager and click on manage/restore backup it doesnt show any back up. Am i doing something wrong? Sorry if something like this was already posted

You need to go into DroidX Bootstrap and click on bootstrap recovery first. Then go to ROM manager and select flash ClockworkMod recovery. After that you should be able to make a backup.
