Help Creating wallpaper for the Droid X

Hi, does anyone know what size a picture needs to be in order to not be blown up and look horrible on the Droid X homescreen? I had the motorola Devour before this phone, and it did the same thing and I never did figure out what size my pictures needed to be in order to look right on the homescreen. Is there an app out there that will make wallpaper from your pictures? Any help greatly appreciated and sorry if this has been posted in another spot, I tried to search through and didnt see an answer for my question. Thanks in advance!

960 x 854 is what I've been using. When you go to the Media Gallery to select them and use for wallpaper, there is a crop feature on the Droid X, just drag on any side of the box to use the full image.

Most image editors will work. Gimp is free but somewhat overpowered for just the crop and resize. There are also website that will do it for you (Free Online Picture Resizer - Crop and Resize photos, images, or pictures online for FREE!)
