Cricket lands the new Huawei IDEOS X5 !

Cricket to carry the new IDEOS X5 2.2 smart phone mid 2011. This has now been confirmed by Matt Stoiber, Cricket Vice President and General Manager of devices:

Stoiber revealed it is going to be in the price range of the Huawei Ascend, which retails for around $159.

(That's a smoking deal for a high quality android phone!) :D

*And especially since Cricket is no-contract, only $55 per month for unlimited service and has recently signed a 5 year contract with Sprint to increase their coverage.

Stoiber also said that Cricket will be coming out with 4G LTE later this year.

What's next for Cricket? ;)

I used to work for (actually was a partner in a store) for Cricket. Actually i am going to start working for them again this Monday. Cricket is really moving up!

I have the Nexus S on T-Mobile $79.99 unlimited everything and no contract.
I know the X-5 is not as sharp but I will be able to get one for free and free service so Heck Ya! I am getting one.

I watched a video and it looks to be running STOCK! :D
 
The only thing I see different from this X5 as opposed to the one being released overseas is the the Cricket model does not have a flash for the camera. This may have been just a pre production model.

I looked in the specs and it said it had an LED Flash. I specifically wanted to make sure since that's the feature I miss the most on the Ascend. It also stated it had autofocus and is 5 MPs.

I hope they push up the delivery!!! :)

I read that on one of your earlier posts on a different thread. I'm glad you changed your mind. I've done a lot of research into Cricket and they have the capability to be huge, being owned by LEAP Wireless.

Now that they have much better coverage, with the Sprint contract, I think we will see more and more users opting to go the no contract route.

If they can just improve on their customer service, and I know they are working on that too, they will keep on moving up.

It is supposed to be soon. I will let you know more when I find out. .

Also there is supposed to be a replacement for the Ascend which caught me off guard because I thought that was the X5.

I also heard the X5's price is going to be comparable to the Ascend

Hi! Thanks for asking! Things are going good minus the 100 mile round trip to and from the store LOL! I haver a feeling it is the LG also as I was told 2nd quarter for the Huawei X5.

Let me see what I can dig up today. I will get back to you! :)

100 mile round trip? I hope they give you a car allowance! LG soon and X5 mid year sounds about right. I'll be waiting to see what else you found. Thanks so much. I'm not interested in the LG but can't wait to get the X5! :D

Say good bye to 2.2 on ascend. Btw how fast will we hit the lame 1gb throttle cap on 4g? There should be a thread on the false advertising of "unlimited data"

Any details on this LG phone? I've heard zero about it. I like the ascend, but kinda tired of explaining to my friends what a huawei is. LOL

Huawei is a HUGE phone manufacturer in China. As for the LG phone it has a 3.2 inch screen while the Huawei X5 will have a 3.8 inch.

Your Ascend is 3.5. Also the 1 gig cap doesn't mean you only get that. It means you get full speeds and after 1 gig they throttle or slow your speeds until your next billing cycle.

You can still get on the web so yes it is unlimited. ALL CARRIERS HAVE CAPS. It is in the fine print. Also some carriers are dropping unlimited data and switching to tiered data.

I may be wrong but I think for Cricket you don't get throttled until 5 gigs on phones and 1 gig on broadband.

So far I haven't had a prob with it.

But I agree that the coming of the new X5 (if Cricket does get it) may interfere with the upgrade. It's called 'marketing'.

The Ascend is getting 2.2 either this or next month. The X-5 will release with 2.2 but Huawei stated they have no immediate plans to upgrade to Gingerbread but an upgrade is not totally ruled out.

Being that it is vanilla Android you should be able to update it to 2.3 yourself.

As for the X5....I heard it's going to be GSM and not CMDA.

No Gingerbread? Ahhhh....guess I'll just have to 'twitch my nose'. LOL

I think its the opposite 1gig on phones, 5 gig on bb

Thanks for the info on the lg. I realize everyone is putting caps on data, but 1gb isn't much. When they slow you down youtube, pandora,etc, is pretty much unusable. Kind of takes the smart out of smartphone. They should have a way to buy more data through flexbucket or whatever. With flash, wi fi tether,etc. it will go even faster. Still, for $55 I can't complain too much!
 
The LG we are getting is the Optimus like Sprint's Verizon's and T-Mobile's with a 3.2*inch screen.

The Huawei X5 has the 3.8 inch screen with a 5MP camera, but the Cricket version does not have a flash I am 99.999% sure from the model I have seen.

We will also be getting a Samsung phone that looks like a BlackBerry and a couple of other low end devices. At my store today we got in a Huawei touch screen dumb phone.
