Help cropping ringtones

hi guys need a bit of help.

iv recently downloaded a few tunes through free music download and set one of the music files as a ringtone and cropped the music file down to cut out the intro, know i cant remember how to do so??
Anybody got a clue what im on about lol

When I go to choose a tune in my music as a ringtone I don't have the ringtone trimmer as an option though it is definitely installed on the phone. How can I use this without resorting to ringdroid?

To clarify: on some songs I don't have the option to select 'Trim the ringtone' while on others I do. Anyone know why this is? And how to solve it?
